City Thai House (61 Carter Lane, London, EC4V 5DY) Four of us turned up on spec for a Thai and found to our pleasant surprise that the place had turned into an great-value Modern English restaurant “61 above the sun”. The decor and tableware had an attractively rustic feel. For example, the bread was thickly sliced and served on a wooden board. The quality of the ingredients and cooking was good and the pricing offered excellent value. In particular, the markup on the wines seemed unusually limited. The place is new and the staff are clearly trying extra-hard to make their guests welcome and happy. This makes it a delightful time to visit this charming new establishment.
