Greig's Grill (26 Bruton Place, London, W1J 6NG) I visited Greig’s Grill in Mayfair for the first time on Thursday 28th October. My fiance and I consider ourselves to be ‘foodies’. We enjoy good food in good restaurants, particularly steak. We’ve eaten in many good steak restaurants across London so were excited to try out a new place with a great reputation. The welcome into Greig’s was pleasant and we were quickly seated to our table. The waiter however, spoke very little English and after having to repeat our orders to him numerous times we ended up just pointing to what we wanted to order on the menu. Our lovely bottle of Fleurie arrived in no time along with our starters which were very good. We both ordered a fillet steak to be cooked medium. When our steaks arrived Neil’s was a perfectly cooked medium fillet and a lovely pink colour in the middle, mine however was much nearer to well done. So I asked the waiter to come over and quietly explained that my steak was over-cooked and that I’d asked for it to be cooked medium not well done. The waiter apologised and took it away and came back shortly after and said that my new steak would take two to three minutes. Five minutes later another member of staff came over, I think perhaps a manager as he was in a different suit to the other waiters, he said ‘What seems to be the problem?’ I explained that there was no problem, my steak had been a little over-cooked and that we were waiting for the new steak to arrive. He then asked my fiancé Neil to cut his steak through the middle which he did and the member of staff then proceeded to say that he had just cut my steak through the middle in the kitchen and it was cooked exactly the same as Neil’s. I tried to explain that it wasn’t and that the steak was over-cooked. This was a very embarrassing situation that he put us in as the area we were sat in was small and intimate and we could easily be heard by others in that part of the restaurant.
