Orrery (55 Marylebone High Street, London, W1U 5RB) I have eaten twice at Orrery, once excellent and once very good. Precise food and service, a place for a special occasion. Excellent cheese trolley – a great chance to cut the nose off fine fromage.

Vanilla Black (17-18 Tooks Court, London, EC4A 1LB) Fabulous Fare Excellent Service Quickly finding a reason to return. One of the nicest main courses I have eaten for some time, and a lovely desert. A hidden gem.

Boisdale of Bishopsgate (Swedeland Court, 202 Bishopsgate, London, EC2M 4NR) Seven years into London it still holds the record for the best steak eaten in the UK. The whisky infused haggis was a bit odd – but very enjoyable.

Albannach (66 Trafalgar Square, London, WC2N 5DS) Haggis = Scotland – right?? Expensive – small portions.

Mestizo (103 Hampstead Road, London, NW1 3EL) Inoffensive but instantly forgettable. Felt like you were sitting in the bus lane.

Hard to get excited about the Light Bar … over-priced cock tails and the chance to encounter the loud and brash of the city. The decor of the restaurant is striking – a beautiful place. Dumplings SO disappointing. Signature Surf and Turf is excellent. Service is good – but a little bit stilted. Certainly not value for money.

Very average food Poor service. Amusing chatter from other diners … including the line … from a “lady” … do you know how many men I have sleep with? 82!

Blueprint Cafe (Design Museum, 28 Shad Thames, London, SE1 2YD) … forgettable … average service. There was a hilarious episode with regards to my steak which looked odd … and tasted odd … so you query it and the staff haven't got a clue … so they take it away and incinerate it … and then give you a new one which looked just like the first. Hilarious.

Used to be great – not been back since they “poisoned” my girlfriend … (she lived) … You complain and they smoke screen – tedious.

Mala (2 Marble Key, London, E1W 1UH) … served one of the worst dishes I have ever seen or tasted to a friend! (My dish was fine) The dish in question – the Rump of Lamb – seemed to get lost in translation – becoming the RUM of lamb. Lamb soaked in Captain Morgan's rum to hilarious effect. Dealt with badly – probably a very solid place under normal circumstances.

K-10 (20 Copthall Avenue, London, EC2R 7DN) Beef Cappraccio is great as are the squid rings with chilli. Chocolate pudding with a solitary raspberry a most pleasing end. Service can be slow. Often large queues – loses out to Kuramaya for city Sushi

Kenza (10 Devonshire Square, London, EC2M 4YP) Great for lunch – terrible for dinner. My review is based on my many lunches there. An oasis from the hubbub of the city – a place to think and eat sausages.

Yauatcha (15 Broadwick Street, London, London, W1F 0DL) Excellent food and solid service. A step up from most Chinese restaurants – worth dabbling in from time to time. The setting reminds me of the stars – far away from London for a little while.

Roast (Floral Hall, Stoney Street, London, SE1 1TL) A fine gourmet feast … and an excellent chance to sit above the melee of Borough Market.
