The Goring Restaurant (The Goring, 15 Beeston Place, London, SW1W 0JW) Went for a lunch in February 2009. Nice British food, properly cooked – although if you're not a great fan of British cuisine, you may just as well go spend your money anywhere else. Haggis was good (as good as a haggis can be), but pork shoulder was a bit elastic and chewy. Linley decor in the restaurant is ok but not outstanding. Overall, a good choice if you want quintessentially British atmosphere and ambience together with some signature British dishes, but not particularly delicious or entertaining.

Went there for a business lunch. Lunch-time was quiet, so we could actually relax and talk. We went for an a la carte. Marinated scallops were very nicely cooked with delicate flavour, fillet of turbot was lovely and also beautifully presented, and a BABA comme a Monte-Carlo was absolutely delightful (such a lovely change from regular boring desserts). Cannot comment on wine as I never drink at lunch. Service was good and inobtrusive. Will definitely recommend for a VIP business eating-out, and the Table Lumiere is definitely a must for any romantic occasions (recommended a colleague to take the wife there for their wedding anniversary, and they were both delighted).

The Glasshouse (The Grove, Chandlers Cross, Hertfordshire, WD3 4TG) I've been there three times (stayed at the Hotel), and each time the food was fantastic. Meat is nicely done (if you want it medium rare, it will be perfectly medium rare), very fresh, served beautifully. Desserts are a real treat. Will definitely come back.

Restaurant Gordon Ramsay (68 Royal Hospital Road, London, London, SW3 4HP) My boss went there for a business lunch and was left disappointed (comparing to his previous visit a year ago). The place did not look clean, there were lots of flies, and one fly dropped in his colleague's water glass. When they made it to the dessert, as soon as he tuck in he found a long thick hair stuck in the pudding – yuck!!! Overall, not worth all the hype and definitely not worth booking two months (!) in advance.

Umu (14-16 Bruton Place, London, London, W1J 6LX) Went there myself some time ago, the food was delicious and presented in a most beautiful way. The waiteress was exquisitely nice and polite, and took the time to properly explained every dish served. Sake is fantastic, best in London. After that, a group of my colleagues went for private dining there on three different occasions, and after each one have nothing but brilliant feedback. The restaurant actually make an effort to remember loyal clients, and they took care to offer them different food each time ("oh, we do remember that last time you liked this – try this one now" etc). One of the colleagues is highly allergic to seafood and fish – they made awesome vegetarian sushi for her, with no fish/seafood/seaweed which were absolutely divine. Overall, highly recommended!

Nobu Berkeley St (15 Berkeley Street, London, London, W1J 8DY) Went there with friends on a Monday night. Food-wise it was excellent, we really enjoyed every little bit of it. Service was surprisingly poor – they brought us two large platters of food which seemed to be what we ordered, and just as we were about to tuck in, a waiter came up, claimed it was not for us and snapped the dish away. OK, we turned to the other platter on the table and got the chopsticks ready – whoops, another waiter jumped in, claimed that wasn't for us either and took this one away too!.. our jaws dropped. They did bring the proper order later but there was no apology.

Imperial China (White Bear Yard, 25a Lisle Street, London, WC2H 7BA) Went to Imperial China with 2 friends and a child. Food was very average which surprised me after the brilliant reviews I read. Noodles with beansprouts were a bit greasy, and chicken with cashew nuts was plain bland. No prawn crackers offered at the start of the meal, which was a bit surprising. Pong Pong prawns on sugar canes were nice (recommend for the kids!), but next day after the meal I cannot recollect what I was eating – nothing stands out. Wine was OK. Service is below average due to half of the waiters not speaking any English – they would call someone else who can speak! They had difficulties understanding how many portions we ordered and how exactly we'd like that cooked. We asked for 3 fruit platters (each platter for min.2 people), instead they brought us one tiny plate and claimed it is for 3 people! At that time we just gave up, it wasn't worth the struggle. Overall, food OK, but nothing which would make a dining out occasion really special. The kid (7 y.o.) loved watching the koi carps in the pond, though, kept him entertained.

Feb 2009 – excellent food for sharing (black cod and wagyu beef were totally brilliant). Service was good, but the restaurant on a Monday night was extremely noisy – there were 4 of us at a very small table, and we had to shout to keep up the conversation, otherwise won't hear each other! Left the restaurant pleasantly full but nearly deaf. Also, too many waiters running around or just loitering and chatting to each other – feels like a busy train station!
