Reply to “What's the best party game?” (in Venues & Events talk )

Now this is very cheap, easy and everyone loves it. I introduced it to my in laws this Christmas but have been playing it at Barnsley Parties (lots of relatives up there) for years

The Cereal Box Game- Start with a cereal box, Place it upwards. Each person in the circle needs to pick up the cereal box with their mouth/teeth only. No hands are allowed.

If anyone cant do it they are out, everyone has one chance only. Once everyone has had a go you cut off about 2 inches and go around again until it is merely a piece of paper with a couple of people left in. its cheap. easy and everyone gets involved.

There is also the flour game. using a container, Christmas pudding container ideal. fill with flour pat down and turn over like a sandcastle. Place a sweety on top
Everyone sits round and slices a bit off at a time, some are braver than others until it is balancing on a tiny tower of flour. Whoever knocks it off has to bury head in flour to retrieve the sweet…Childish but very funny!

hope this helps x More

Great Post Mike,

I think it's really important to remember that amongst all the doom and gloom there is hope and a hunger to drive success.

Now more than any other time we have the most incredible tools to promote our companies, Reinforce relationships amongst the industry and join together to sustain our industry in the most positive way.

I personally cant wait to see what the new year shall bring for the events world and am thoroughly delighted to be a part of it.

You are completely right in saying that hardship brings forth entrepreneurship, People are having to use their heads and creativity is certainly thriving.

Here's to a budding 2010. More

Reply to “A wedding photography revolution?” (in Venues & Events talk )

Wedding photography is often shunned as being the bottom of the rung stuff! I couldn't disagree more.

As someone who has chosen their photographer for next year I luckily found mine through the events tweet ups, However before that I found no one offering what I was looking for, arty, relaxed, soft images showing the feel of the day.

What's more I cant bare the thought of the stiff formal piccys, Id much prefer a piccy of a glance from dad to me, or a tender hug from one family member to another or a hearty belly laugh, These are the images that are priceless and only a talented photographer will capture.

I think its great that Rick Bronks is now branching out into this area and I will definitely be recommending him to friends and peers. The wedding industry has just earned themselves a dynamic and focused new supplier

His prices are fantastic and his ethics exactly how they should be.

I wish him the very best of luck. More

Thread “The Importance of exhibitors choosing the right show” (in Venues & Events talk )

I have been visiting shows in the Midlands today and have felt the incredible positivity radiating from some clients who can not move for people clambering onto their stands to sample their delights and purchase their brilliant show offers.

Unfortunately I have also had a tear bought to my eye by exhibitors, clients who have been advised poorly into which show they should exhibit at.

We all know at these times sales are harder and achieving targets are extremely hard pushed but if we are to sustain the exhibition and events industry as a whole we need to advise our clients and exhibitors honestly and thoughtfully.

Exhibiting at a show/trade show or exhibition is an incredible way to show the world that you are here, that you are proud of your business/products or services and that you are ready to create an awareness of your goods, But doing it at the right show can make or break a company.

As event professionals it is our responsibility to advise our clients of what shows are appropriate, get them to wander round the show and see if it’s for them, if you're confident your shows is you are going to get their business eventually, by showing them your confidence you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

I have seen today the exhibitors that have been advised correctly and chosen the right show are now exhibiting at 9 or 10 shows a year because they got it right! They now have the funds to plough back into more exhibitions strengthening our industry and creating more contracts for more companies. We all gain from helping exhibitors make the right decision.

On the other hand I have seen a brilliant company with a fantastic product at totally the wrong show, buying into 2 at once with poor advice this client will be lucky to survive considering the huge costs, Who wins? No one, had they been told, “no this shows actually not for you but why don't you try…” they would have flourished, and yet another exhibition convert would have been established. Instead the exhibition will receive no future booking from this client, they won’t require a stand, staff, carpets, signage, we all lose not least the exhibitor themselves.

Exhibitions, Trade Shows and public shows are to me the most incredible tool for a company, as event professionals I think we should be showing exhibitors how to build with them.

Let me know your thoughts. More
