L'Autre Pied (5-7 Blandford Street, London, London, W1U 3DB)

I went wirth a friend only one week befor it got it's first michelin star and we were both disapointed. I had just completed 4 weeks work experience in the kitchen of it's sister restaurant ‘pied a terre’ so i was expecting a lot more than we got. The starters were both very good, and came out in ok time. However, this is where things went wrong, the main course took 40 minutes and both mains were only luke warm and i would've been more than happy to send them back except we were both hungry and did't want to wait another 40 minutes so just grinned and bared it. the desserts were both very good and resonably priced. All in all we spent £55 on a la carte food each and another £20 on wine each. i was severly disapointed and expected al ot more, and we shouldve just gone with the top tabloe menu which we saw a few people having. Since then, we went to the pearl bar and restaurant in holbourn which has no stars but had a much better evening but with MUCH better food and can't believe it has no stars. Any way, i would not recomment l'autre pied and i am certainly not going back!!

Pearl at the Chancery Court Hotel (Chancery Court Hotel, 252 High Holborn, London, London, WC1V 7EN)

I went last year with a friend of mine and had recently eaten at l'autre pied and were disapointed because of cold food so we neededsome cheering up. we had a £35 toptable menu (which the waiters quite enjoyed advertising for some reason) which was a 3 course written menu with a glass of wine. The restaursant was very quiet so the atmosphere was amazing but flet slightly crowded by waiters but the service was so good, we cant complain. The food was amazing, cannot fault it at all, and cannot really believe it dosn't have any michelin stars. We had canapes and a pre starter included which iss more than we got at l'autre pied when we paid almost double and were on al a carte, not top table. The pearl was amzing, cannot fault it, i really want to go again and would highly recommend!!!

China Tang at The Dorchester Hotel (The Dorchester, 53 Park Lane, London, London, W1K 1QA)

I am a chef at the landmark hotel and a gorup of 9 of us, including some chefs went a few weeks ago. We went because someone reading heston blumenthel's book read he said it was the best chinese in london, really??? We were there for 3 and a half hours and spent £90 each. We couldn't find an easy way into the restaurant form the outside that looked open so went throught the main entrance and ended up having to walk through the lounge where people were having dinner and drinks etc, very odd and uncomfortable! The dishes were stupidly tiny and the service was some of the slowest ive had even though there were loads of them. We ordered £40 worth of peking duck and even after getting it again in our main course we were wandering where the other half went form a whole duck! We had 2 bottles of white and one red wine which were both expensive and nothing special at all. By the end of it, half of the table were still hungry but we didnt want to be there any longer-it was too expenisve, too noisy, way too slow and the actual restaurant was old and in need of some serious refurbishment! A few months before, some of us had eaten at a chinese restaurant in soho, spent half the time there, only £30 and the food was much better and the service was just amazing. i would not recommend at all!
