Read the thread 16 December 2011Thanks for all the suggestions, guys! We played that secret santa game and it was so much fun! More
Read the thread 9 December 2011Liquid nitrogen bars? I tried freeze-your-own lemon meringue pies at a showcase party by Nomad (the caterers) a while back. Fun and delicious! More
Read the thread 9 December 2011We've got our office Christmas lunch next week and I've been tasked with organising some games to play between courses. Any ideas? More
Read the thread 10 November 2011I'll be booking the entertainment for our Christmas party in the next couple of days. Has anyone seen any great new acts that are worth checking out? More
Read the thread 26 July 2011How about Baltic in Southwark? I've been to a couple of big parties there and the space works really well. More
Read the thread 26 July 2011I like bowl food receptions – more substantial than canapés but not as restrictive as a sit-down meal. Most venues and organisers will offer this as an alternative to the more traditional Christmas dinner. More
Read the thread 14 April 2011Hi Victoria,
Who are your usual caterers?
I really rate deWintons – they do some really innovative stuff without skimping on the quality of ingredients: Dewintons
Nomad are probably the most ‘out there’ of the London lot: nomadlondon.co.uk
Or you could try the catering arm of the restaurant group behind The Ivy: Urban Caprice
A lot of restaurants are getting into catering so you could also check if one of your favourite restaurants would help out.
Good luck! Would love to hear how you get on with the tastings! More
Read the thread 24 March 2011Egg & spoon race? Tug-o-war? What else..? More
Read the thread 24 March 2011How about the new Hakkasan in Mayfair? I bet you'd need a big budget to take it over exclusively but the space is gorgeous. Sketch do great parties too but, again, very expensive. More
Read the thread March 2011Chez Gerard has a beautiful terrace right next to the Royal Opera House: Chez Gerard Cov

I doubt that you'd be able to get ‘private’ space for just five on a summer terrace, though. More
Read the thread February 2011I'm all for an early dinner but before 5.30pm?! That's just ridiculous. What about the poor chefs? Those kind of hours leave no time for a break between lunch and dinner service. More
Read the thread February 2011I need lots of bunting for a British-themed summer party. Does anyone know if you can hire it quite cheaply or is it better to buy in bulk? More
Read the thread December 2010Wow – great tips! Thanks Victoria! More
Read the thread December 2010We're all spending £5 on Secret Santa gifts for the office christmas party this year. Has anyone spotted any cool stuff in that price range in the shops? More
Read the thread November 2010Thanks so much Ms Macaroon – what a great recommendation! I have booked it and CAN'T WAIT to go. So excited!!!
For the benefit of other forum users, I also found great weekend lunch deals at some other restaurants, which I thought I'd share: squaremeal.co.uk/restaurants/na me/trinity (£28 Sunday lunch)
The Ledbury (£40 Sunday lunch)
Seven Park Place at the St James's_Hotel_and_Club (£29.50 lunch any day of the week) More
Read the thread November 2010Can anyone recommend a great restaurant that does a good-value set lunch on Saturday or Sunday? I love the £25 deal at One-o-one (3 ‘petit plats’ and a bellini – any day of the week!) but have been so many times I want to try something new. We're after gourmet food, even better if there's a wine package. Any suggestions very welcome. More
Read the thread August 2010How about bowling and dinner at All Star Lanes? Great fun!

Read the thread July 2010Something on the latest trends in food and drink would be good. More
Read the thread July 2010I like a Christmas party where the food is anything but traditional – you don't want to tire of turkey before the big day! How about curry? Great for a group as easy to serve (family-style with help-yourself-bowls on each table, perhaps) and most people like it. More
Read the thread July 2010Good find! That looks really cool. More
Read the thread June 2010So I'm guessing quite a few of us will be picnicing this weekend. How about we share some top tips? Mine would be to buy a nice ‘bag-in-box’ wine – Namaqua (sainsburys.co.uk
/groceries/inde x.jsp?bmUID=1277371302409) is a good one – and pop it in the freezer the night before. The frozen wine will melt gradually, making sure you have cold wine for hours. Same goes for bottles of water and juice – and all those frozen liquids will also help keep your food cold so they're no need for freezer blocks in the cool bag! More
Read the thread June 2010Surely, we should be supporting our boys by serving ENGLISH food for all the games?! Here's to pork pies, ploughmans and big bowls of salad with fresh garden peas! More
Read the thread June 2010In Sweden, bars put stacks of blankets in their outside areas, which looks cosy and inviting. Invest in some proper wool tartan or have cheap ones made for the event. Great branding opportunity too! More
Read the thread June 2010What a glorious day! Let's celebrate the sunshine by voting for the best alfresco venues. My favourite is The Deck
What's yours? More
Read the thread May 2010The conservatory in the Wallace Collection is a lovely spot for tea – and cheap! £19.50 including a glass of prosecco if I remember correctly. Check it out! More
Read the thread April 2010I've also heard Lime Wood is great – can't wait to try that one out. Other favourites are Summer Lodge, Chewton Glen and the Old Course Hotel in St Andrews. Or what about Paris/Brussels/Antwerp as incentive destinations? The Eurostar is so quick now they're only a couple of hours away. More
Read the thread April 2010Right. This isn't a very eventy request – my apologies – but I'm off to Madrid next week and someone told me about this butcher's that's also a bar but he couldn't remember what it was called or where it was. Sounded great, though: a proper working butcher/deli with a small bar in the centre, so you can have a drink and eat stuff from the charcuterie section while watching butchers chop up meat behind the counter. Anyone know where this is? Any other quirky recommendations for places to eat and drink in Madrid? More
Read the thread April 2010OK, here goes: I'm going to admit to my guilty pleasure… I absolutely love The Swan in Stockwell. Bit of a dodgy pub/nightclub combo but, wow, they put on the BEST cover bands. Cheap drinks, party atmosphere – you can't go wrong: theswanstockwell.co.uk More
