Hasn’t rated any restaurants this year.

Gow's (81-82 Old Broad Street, London, London, EC2M 1PR)

If Gow's paid me to eat dinner there, I'd scream and run for the hills. This evening's meal at Gow's was possibly the most flavourless, miserable and un-inspired meal I've eaten in living memory. I'd rather go hungry than be paid to eat at Gow's.

The interior at Gow's is miserable, the staff don't even bother to ask why your plate returns to the kitchen un-touched. The risotto was diabolical, the steamed potatoes had been “boiled” a good 12 hours ago and reheated in the microwave – rubbery edges and brittle centres mmmmmm.

This place charges more than St John Bread & Wine, yes, you heard right. There are toby grills that would wipe the floor with Gow's, it's just appaling. Please do yourself a favour and go for a McDonalds. You'll be less disappointed and still have plenty left over to go for a bite at the Anchor & Hope. This place shouldn't be allowed to even serve food, and where the hell does the Squaremeal star come from??? When did you ever eat here?

Meson Los Barilles (8 Lamb Street, London, E1 6EA)

This wasn't the first time i've visited Meson, and the lunch visits before have been pretty good experiences.

I'd advise you to avoid the specials. In any great establishment, specials are just that – something in season and abundance. In other places specials mean “the stuff that's almost out of date or in bad shape we wanna get rid of”. I'm sad to say I think Meson is in the latter camp.

Le Chandelier (161 Lordship Lane, London, London, SE22 8HX)

The native oysters were as good as they should be but the steak had been steamed and arrived wet, soggy and sad. I had to ask that the chef try again but the second attempt was no better. If a french restaurant can't knock out an entrecote properly then I don't think it's worth a second visit.

Tapas Brindisa (18-20 Southwark Street, London, SE1 1TJ)

I've long been a fan of Tapas Brindisa, always been very happy with the exemplary cooking. It was a disappointment last night though :( I've loved this palce for a long time but the food last night was half hearted, lots of little things were missing ofr example the lick of olive oil on the pan tomate, the much overcooked chicken livers needing a splash of sherry vinegar and the very average octopus with potatoes. I wondered if perhaps the expansion into Soho and Kensington has diluted their standards.

I'll be heading off to Barrafina next time, similar prices but far more inspired.

BTW squaremeal, your prices for Brindisa a very low, i'd suggest £30-35 a head without wine is more realistic.
