Fishers in the City (58 Thistle Street, Edinburgh, Central Scotland, EH2 1EN) Having trusted both the Square Meal description and one Guardian journalists article description I headed to Fishers in Leith with images of seafood platters and grilled swimmers fresh from the water not 50 feet from the restaurants front door. The menu greeted me with seared tuna & snapper to name but two foreign folk. I didn't see hide nor hair of anything remotely local apart from the lobster. Great to have local lobsters but hardly making much use of the surfeit on offer from the neighbouring docks. I did plumb for the seafood platter and unfortunately I was disappointed. It consisted of frozen green lips from New Zealand, frozen prawns you'd expect from Tesco Metro, smoked mackerel (not the real thing though, painted) and marinated anchovies again from the deli counter. I'd suggest you try next door or better still book ahead and go for Kitchin just round the corner, I couldn't get a walk in table but the menu looked fantastic!
