Shanghai Blues (193-197 High Holborn, London, WC1V 7BD) Went more for an early evening snack than full meal, so we tried some of their dim sum options and cocktails. Both were excellent, both in design and taste (pumpkin dim sum came in a crispy shell shaped like a pumpkin with a cucumber stalk! very clever). Cocktails were also very impressive, so will have to go back to try some more at some point. Service was great, both when we got there (and it was practically empty) until we left (when the place was practically heaving) so definitely rate the staff on that one. Overall would recommend to others and definitely return to at some point.

Mosaica @ The Factory (The Chocolate Factory, Clarendon Road, London, London, N22 6XJ) One word: Amazing! I went with my mum, who has trouble climbing steps, so as this restaurant is all on the ground floor without any that's already a plus for me. The staff were really attentive, knew what they were doing, served ladies first (an etiquette I find severely lacking in several upmarket restaurants these days), and were generally really friendly. The place is clearly an old factory room that they've basically gutted and re-decked. Considering how many art studios are surrounding it that's no surprise. There's also a lot of art inside the room, funky lights, funky furniture – basically they've done a pretty damn good job jazzing up an otherwise plain black hollow room. The food was divine. I had the chicken with ‘all the trimmings’ (basically the yorkshire puddings failed that day so they called it that instead, at least they have a sense of humour). My mum had the duck with goats cheese and beetroot salad. Both were equally incredibly tasty and filling. We also had the mushroom and gorgonzolla starter to share – I'd asked for it as a side, so the waiter had also asked the chef the same, so it came a lot smaller than a normal starter. He said they'd charge us half for it, but ended up just not charging us for it which was impressive, especially since they took the initiative to say all that before I had a chance to say anything. They did run out of desserts though which was a shame, but it was about to close for the day when we were offered that menu so that's fair enough. There was a lot more on the menu, though it's a single page with starters and desserts – standard fare for most small modern restaurants. Locating it was a bit awkward as you can see the building from far away but it's not obvious how to get to it. Drive down Western road (from either direction), turn into Coburg road, then take the first left (no through road – that's Clarendon Road). It does get quite noisy inside there, but not too heavy that you can't hear the rest of your party…

Sushinho (312-314 King's Road, London, SW3 5UH) While searching for a Sushi place south of High Street Ken, I managed to stumble across this gem. Restaurant looks really decent which is a good start. It's not busy early in the eve (7ish) but gets busier nearer 9 (apparently with regulars). Note they do a 2 hour table turn (which they advise when booking by phone), but to be fair it wasn't busy enough for them to actually commit to it on the eve we went. The staff were really down to earth and friendly, which is certainly a bonus. The menu is not the largest but certainly has a range of flavours. Note that the SquareMeal suggestion of their Tuna is no longer an option – there's a note on the menu saying they no longer serve tuna due to it's endangered status. We ordered two of the sushi platters plus a tempura set. One thing to note – other than one or two items, the rest of the platters all contain identical fish nigiri, so if we return we will probably select individual items rather than more than one platter options. As a party of 3, it was impressive to see that despite the menu suggesting there would be 2 of each item, some items on the platters came in 3's, which I always take to be a sign of a good restaurant. And their cocktail menu is certainly worth a gander – I only managed 2 items from it but would certainly go back again (I recommend the Venison and dark chocolate martini – no it doesn't contain any animals but it tasted lovely and had dark chocolate chunk in the bottom instead of an olive) Overall I was really impressed with the place and would definitely go back – need to try more of the chefs specials (spicy salmon roll is also recommended), and some of there actual plate options. Thumbs up!

Quirky drinks menu that sounds brilliant and tastes just as good, random layout/artifacts (digital birds in cages, etc), you have to see it to believe it. Would definitely go back. There's 2 other bars in Sketch which are cool but not as impressive as the parlour… There's a distinct child-like take to the whole thing (a kids plastic toy tree in the restaurant, hopscotch in the entrance hall, french maids by the toilets), which just adds to the whole thing. It's high end but without the snottyness, it's just good fun. Can't really knock it, the price isn't cheap (£15 a cocktail) but the surroundings and clientelle probably tell you why. If you're in the area for a more relaxing non-standard cocktail in a fun but not loud/crowded atmosphere, go here!

Babylon (The Roof Gardens, Derry Street, London, W8 5ED) Went here partly for the view, partly because I fancied somewhere different. Staff were friendly and non intrusive, though avoid asking for a recommendation on the menu as you won't get one. Food was lovely, sea bass cooked stunningly and the lamb had amazing flavour. Presentation was excellent. Cocktails were also lovely and worth sampling. The view speaks for itself, covering all the way from the gherkin across passed battersea power station, then another view along the south side. The terrace also overlooks their 6th floor garden which is cool. I suspect in warmer weather the terrace seats are fairly popular. It is clear that you pay a slight premium for the view but then that's partly why you'd come here. Overall a really nice experience, would definitely go back, and would recommend to others.

Good place, though be careful if you haven't booked and there's only two of you, we got stuck next to the loo's both times I've been and it always feels like it's the extra table they left out in case. Food is lovely though, and the service is still pretty good

Savoro (206 High Street, London, EN5 5SZ) We've eaten here a couple of times now, once on mother's day and once for a birthday. The food is lovely, the menu is always quite interesting – they appear to cater for all tastes, and their vegetarian option always looks tempting. The venue looks great and is well spaced out – not cramped like some places. It's a small venue, probably sitting 60 people max I think. And it's worth having a dessert, haven't been disappointed so far. Worth noting is there's no steps to get into the main restaurant, in case disabled access etc is a requirement. Only downside for me is out of the two times we've been when I booked the latest time the attendant on the phone was a bit too patronising and assumed too much for my liking, which is a shame because the place itself is worth a visit if you ignore that. The service at the restaurant is impeccable and friendly though.
