Crazy Bear (26-28 Whitfield Street, London, W1T 2RG)

I was slightly disappointed with this when I took my partner there for our anniversary last year. We were seated at a table near the door so not the most romantic of settings and the service was very slow. The restaurant was empty and the next couple that entered were sat next to us and talked ‘business’ in very loud voices – my hints to the staff to be moved were ignored. The food however was very tasty and authentic (those who have been to Thailand will know this), so if you like Thai food then I would recommend it to you. Be prepared for a hefty drinks bill – make sure you ask for a small amount of ice in your drink! The ladies toilets are something to be seen – take a camera with you, it's amazing! There is a downstairs lounge that looks sumptuous and comfortable, if the drinks were a bit cheaper we would have been tempted to spend the evening there. If you don't know where it is, keep your eyes peeled as it is easy to miss.

Royal Exchange Grand Café (The Royal Exchange, London, EC3V 3LR)

For civilised drinking this is up there. The gallery has areas that you can reserve, they are very cozy and romantic. The surroundings are beautiful and due to the impossibly high ceiling the acoustics are impressive with voices echoing around you. The drinks are around £10 each and they have a good selection of spirits. The staff on my last visit were very attentive and polite. If you go there I would advise you to reserve a seated area as this is a very busy venue and the seating is sparse – which is good as you get alot of privacy.

Wagamama Old Broad Street (22 Old Broad Street, London, EC2N 1HQ)

What can I say – food is perfect always, served within 10 minutes and very cheap. If you don't mind sitting on a hard wooden bench in a row then I would highly recommend it. I have no negative comments about this restaurant chain (they even took out the onions from my dish upon my request)

Vertigo 42 (Level 42, 25 Old Broad STREET, London, EC2N 1HQ)

I would recommend Vertigo to anyone who hasn't been already. I have been there a few times over the years and love taking people there as it is unique. The bar is circular and narrow with mirrors on the internal walls and seating next to the windows. You can reserve an area (usually in 45 minute slots) and the menu is Champagne, Wine and Cocktails. The Cocktails are expensive at £12 for a small glass but you are paying for the view and experience so it is good value. The best time to go is in the evening as the views are more stunning when the city is lit up. The music is relaxing if a little too loud for older people (my parents!). My mother is not fond of heights but the atmosphere is very calming and she enjoyed it and even had a walk around to admire the views from other areas. A nice way to round of a session in Vertigo is to go to Wagamammas on the ground floor (also reviewed).

Coq d'Argent (1 Poultry, London, London, EC2R 8EJ)

We took my parents to Coq D'Argent for their wedding anniversary two weeks ago. The staff treated us like VIPs and were very attentive and professional. All three courses were nicely presented and served prompty, the portions were smallish but after 3 couses we were all full. My only criticism of the food was that the soup (lobster bisque) was too salty for me. I would recommend the sirloin steak for two to share – it was perfectly cooked and delicious. The wine I ordered was not in stock so one of the staff suggested an alternative based on my preferences and his choice was spot-on (and it was half the price of the one I originally chose!) I have visited the Brasserie before but this was my first time in the restaurant and I have nothing but praise for the staff. It is expensive to splash out on three courses with wine but it is really worth it, they have a cheaper set menu which looked very good also. This is a good place to take a group of people as you can have a conversation across the table without being drowned out by music, the decor is very smart with long white tablecloths and the toilets were spotless.
I took a client to the Brasserie a couple of summers ago, we were glad we chose to eat there as the steak and chips was excellent, it is much cheaper than the restaurant but the food is still fabulous. Afterwards we sat outside in the garden with a few glasses of Pimms and had a thouroughly civilised afternoon.
