Ping Pong Belvedere Road (Festival Terrace, Southbank Centre, Belvedere Road, London, SE1 8XX)

Something different and for the adventurous, this modern stylish restaurant is located right next to the Festival Hall and while propably not the best place out of the parade, they do very well to look alluring and inspiring. This venue is both smart and elegant looking which compliments the menu and cocktails they have to offer. Outside sitting available but giving the location eating inside might be more comforting.

The food ordering system consist of marking on a tick box format order form but don't let this put you off as it adds to the character and fun of the place. The atmosphere is lively and seems constantly busy making the staff prompt and very attentive looking for where needed. The food and presentation is just as interesting as the menu suggests, arriving in nice woven packages of baskets and leaves which is tasteful. Steamed dumplings a must and the sticky rice being exactly sticky. Cocktails are a treat too, offering a wide and vibrant range of both alcholic and non.

Overall this place is as interesting as impressive and merits more visits to get to full taste of the experience. However, this is by far a great way to try this style of food giving the portions as everything but the cocktails and desserts comes in threes. Spacious restaurant and generally busy so I can imagine they can cope with large parties and the round bench like tables inside would cater for a small gathering of friends.

Plum Valley (20 Gerrard Street, London, W1D 6JQ)

This Chinatown restaurant stands out amoung the other traditional Chinese eaterys you expect to find along the strip yet fits so well with the night life of a busy London. The Interior of dark chic design and the lightening perfect for most occasions at this venue.

We were greeted by a very welcoming Hostess who while taking us to our seats on the third gave us a little tour of the place. The menu is as you would expect but was superbly prepared and well presented.Kung Pow Chicken and the addition of Pineapple with the sweet and sour worked a treat. We mistook the noodles with chicken in blackbean sauce as a main dish as the portions of meat were so generous.Wine too was what you expected but the Chilean Merlot was very pleasing to drink at a budget unlike some house reds you can find in other places.

The service was perfect and even enjoyed some friendly banter with the staff and other Plum goers. Would strongly recommend this place for couples or a small gathering to make use of the corner seating, comfortable sofas with the revolving server tray.

Chicago Rib Shack (145 Knightsbridge, London, SW1X 7PA)

This American themed eatery has what you would expect from a Rib Shack plus more as the flair and character of the place seems grand yet inviting. The many touches to the restaurant stand out including the pig motifs, the stained-glass window and not forgetting the bibs for ribs.

The food is generous boasting large portions with a selection of meats other than ribs including a range of fish, chicken and salads. This venue is more suited to the meat-eater offering a small choice of vegetrian. Dishes such as the onion loaf are better shared as it is much larger than you might expect, briskets are very flavoursome and ribs do warrant bib wearing.

The drinks and wines are typically priced but the list includes some imported beers which are worth a try.

Service is good and the staff have the same flair to suit the place. Very attentive and not shy to fasten the ribs to you.

Chicago Rib Shack is a great place to start a night, recommended for a pre-meal to the Royal Albert Hall with the bus stop directly outside. Would be suitable for parties, families and couples especially with the more intimate seating downstairs with private areas.
