1901 at Andaz (Andaz, 40 Liverpool Street, London, London, EC2M 7QN) I booked 1901 after reading Square Meal’s glowing review and couldn’t believe it had received a star. Although the staff were numerous and desperate to please, the service was haphazard and slow. The standard of food was average with tiny portions and high prices. My guests paid for the meal and I was left feeling embarrassed to have made the recommendation. Square Meal mentions ‘live music’. Not on this evening when we were subjected to soft orchestral piped music, with a horrible version of ‘Je t’aime’ coming through the speakers on arrival! My only positive comment would be that the room is beautiful with a magnificent stained glass ceiling from the hotel’s days as a grand railway hotel but the atmosphere is about as warm as a station waiting room.
