I've just moved to a new company that doesn't subsidise the Christmas bash at all. Quite a change from the lash-fest my previous employer used to put on.

Christmas is the ideal time to say ‘thanks’ to staff. There's a party allowance tax break available for employers too, I believe. Seems a shame that some firms don't make the most of it; there's plenty of party planners out there that can make a small budget go far. More

I've really not got time to plan the office Christmas do this year. Has anyone used any really good party planners recently that they'd recommend? More

How about carp. My Polish friend does it every year: goes to the local river, pulls and four or five big carp and cooks them for xmas dinner. job done. More

The Hurlingham Club offers top-drawer croquet facilities. They can put on some fantastic events too for parties of all sizes. Really good catering and other facilities. More

Having been lucky enough to experience both, I'd have to say probably not. Although it's an amazing experience to be able to go into the Royal Enclosure once, i think if you're taking a large group, it's much better value for money to go for one of the other trackside facilities.
we took a group to the Bessborough Restaurant last year, where there's a Vivienne Westwood fashion show before the racing. Everyone seemed to really enjoyed it, even the men in the group.

For a small party, though. The chance to get dressed up in top hat and tails is one that people will remember forever, so maybe the royal enclosure might be better for a real sense of occasion More

Had a great time at Old Trafford in Manchester for the cricket last year. Think they've got a new facility opening this year, which would be good to check out., More

Thread “short notice party” (in Venues & Events talk )

I really need to find somewhere for a party next Thursday. The social sec at my company just left and has left us seriously in the lurch. Any recommendations? Needs to be West End with ideally no room hire fee.

Many thanks, More

I always find a good round of snuff sharing, followed by a good old fashioned port and brandy gets the party going. More
