Reply to “Please Please please can we have a blanket ban on Mobile…” (in Restaurant & bar talk)

Seems to be a trait in some who love to draw attention to themselves, which is why I guess they won’t leave the table. Frankly I’d be embarrassed to use a mobile at the table, though I hate to admit that I keep my phone switched on purely to take a call should my house alarm be triggered. Thankfully not happened yet. And I agree any other call can be ignored/terminated. More

Reply to “The Nut Tree, Murcott, OX5 2RE” (in Restaurant & bar talk)

If Michael North is still at the Nut Tree, then I know that the food there should be pretty good, as he used to cook for The Goose at Britwell Salome. Fortunately, the replacement chef at The Goose is as good and also having seen the Blumenthal family there, seems to be a good endorsement. If you’re heading down towards Reading/Henley then make time to stop off. Likewise, I’d better take a trip up to Murcott to see what he’s doing with the Old Spot! More

Reply to “Which lives longer in the memory: the food or the service?” (in Recommend me a restaurant or a bar)

Often, bad service = bad manners which is inexcusable and therefore probably more memorable than the meal. No matter what type of business you come across in the US, service always seems paramount…I think it’s one US ethic I’d like us to import. More
