Scott's (20 Mount Street, London, London, W1K 2HE)

We went to Scott's to celebrate my wife's birthday and were not disappointed. The oysters followed by a main course of ray and one of cod were sublime. As ever the atmosphere and service added to what will remain a memorable evening

Bar Boulud at the Mandarin Oriental (Mandarin Oriental, 66 Knightsbridge, London, London, SW1X 7LA)

This was probably my most disappointing experience of 2010. Having heard about the burgers I was sure that my Saturday afternoon was going to be one of enjoyment and endulgence.
Our crab starters were, I have to admit, superb and I would willingly have them again. But sadly the main course was a massive let down. The burger was dry and tasteless and the bread was far from fresh.
I never thought I would say this of a ‘super star’ chef but when it comes to his signature burgers he could learn a great deal from either Macdonalds or Burger king.
It will be a long time before I return

JW Steakhouse (Grosvenor House, 86 Park Lane, London, London, W1K 7TN)

At long last London has a JW Steakhouse and this one does not disappoint!!!

I decided to try Grosvenor House's latest offering and have to admit I was blown away. I had crab cake to start followed by a perfectly cooked fillet of USDA beef. My fellow diner opted for the vegetarian main course and, whilst this may sound like an odd choice in a steak house it proved to be a real treat.

The wine and cocktail lists compliments the menu pefectly and the waiters are there to help

I plan to return soon – one day I must tackle the 32 ounce tomahawk steak!!

J Sheekey (28-32 St Martin's Court, London, London, WC2N 4AL)

We decided to return to J Sheekey for a birthday celebration last night and from the moment we arrived to the moment we left we were not disappointed. Following a starter of scallops my monkfish tail was perfectly cooked and one of the most tender I have had in a long time. My wife opted for oysters followed by the Ray – she is still talking about it 24 hours later! These were all washed down with an excellent bottle of Gavi.
J Sheekey never fails to deliver. If you are looking for a special night out you could do a lot worse than spending a few hours in this wonderful West End institution.

Mr Wing (242 Old Brompton Road, London, London, SW5 0DE)

Mr Wing is an Earls Court institution which has never failed to deliver on a great night out. Such classics as crispy duck and Singapore noodles are always spot on. Yes, the wine list could be broader but from experience that has never got in the way.
For a good night out, great service and superb food Mr Wing should be given the benefit of the doubt as it won't let you you down and most importantly it is the sort of restaurant you will return to time and time again.

Restaurant Critic

Rules (35 Maiden Lane, London, WC2E 7LB)

The only place in town for a proper Sunday roast lunch. The beef was perfection and the horse raddish hit the right spot.
Yes it's expensive, however we arrived at 12.30 on Sunday and left at 5.30pm – 5 hours of good food, good wine and superb quality. A perfect Sunday

Chinese Cricket Club (19 New Bridge Street, London, London, EC4V 6DB)

I recently took a client to the Chinese Cricket Club and had a superb meal. The soft shelled crab and the orange beef were particularly good.
The portion sizes are large so do watch out when ordering as you can easily overdo it. The quality of the food however allows you to get over this. Well worth a visit whether it be lunchtime or supper
