Chez Gerard Covent Garden Piazza (The Opera Terrace, Covent Garden Piazza, London, WC2E 8RF)

Had a mid week evening dinner. Food was excellent along with setting and general ambience – but service was very amateur – several minute wait at desk on arrival for host to appear, soup arrived without a soup spoon which took several further minutes to materialise and vegetables arrived several minutes after the main dishes. Also the champagne in kir royale was flat and far too much cassis was added.

The Driver (2-4 Wharfdale Road, London, N1 9RY)

I work near The Driver and it is always my first choice for casual business lunching. I think the food is better than implied in the main review. I would heartly recommend.

The Brill (6-8 Caledonian Road, London, N1 9DT)

Was not very impressed – although premises were nicely fitted out. Waitress did not know what the soup of the day was. I ordered the pie of the day – what arrived was burnt – and frankly I've had much nicer pukka pies from a fish & chip shop for a lot less than £10. Lemon tart for desert was OK. Prices were high and didn't seem good value for money. Mandatory 12.5% service charge.
