Read the thread May 2010I went to the launch of the new JW steak house at the Grosvenor House hotel yesterday. It was a great event, that clearly went all-out, but the steak was amazing! Apparently you can order a steak there called ‘the tomahawk’ – 32oz of meat! And it wasn't just the steak that was good, they also had the best crab cakes I've ever tasted, and huge prawns! More
Read the thread April 2010Someone told me last week that Spitalfields market has a Petanque pitch for a short time during the summer – if you need refreshments Le Bouchon Breton on the upstairs level does lovely french food and has a cheese trolley too!
I know Balls Brothers bar at Hays Galleria have a Pentanque pitch… and Corney & Barrow have a Croquet area at one of their City bars which I'm sure you could use. More
Read the thread April 2010Babington House! It's an amazing venue, great service, lovely grounds, good food. Plus they have a Cowshed Spa, in case you want to indulge your sales team a little…

Read the thread April 2010I've just been on the website and seen that there are loades of vintage china bits you can rent, including cake stands. It's even organised into the various china patterns! Hope this helps

Read the thread April 2010I've only just seen this, so might be coming to the party a little late…
But I have been to an event where they used a company called Vintage Patisserie. I think this is the website: vintagepatisserie.co.uk.
It was a really great event, really professional service, and I can't recommend it highly enough!
They organised everything – all the retro china, the food, tea etc. I think you can have add-ons to do burlesque classes as well! I think you may be able to hire the retro china by itself, but the cost for the whole thing was pretty reasonable so may be worth considering doing that instead! More
Read the thread March 2010My friend told me about a venue in Islington called ‘The Window’. Apparently it's a great space with lots of light, and very relaxing… they do optional pre-meeting meditations/energising sessions etc if that's the sort of thing you're after. The food is supposed to be amazing – they are very into nutrition and do very hearty/wholesome delegate lunches too. Another option I think might fit the bill is The Energy Clinic – but I'd try the window first as looks better! More
Read the thread January 2010There are a lot of reports that ‘the worst is over’ but probably best not to start quaffing the magnums of champagne just yet…
I work in an events team in a fairly large corporate institution where the number of events we are holding are still way down on previous years, not to mention the fact they've cut our events team in half!
Maybe things are different for events in the non-corporate/non-financial world, but the problem is that no one wants to be seen to be holding events, especially not large ones. This is really frustrating if you're in a company that is performing really well, and wants to hold these events & take clients to hospitality etc. For companies like ours, the fear of getting damaging PR is deemed too great.
Don't get me wrong, the city is bubbling and there are lots of encouraging signs which filter directly down to us and the events that we hold…
Here's hoping things will get better in 2010 – it's beginning to look that way!

Read the thread January 2010I may be too late with this recommendation, but I would suggest a comapny called Paul Antonio Scribe.
A colleague of mine used him last year and he made up some beautiful hand written invitations. I think he does place cards, order of service sheets etc for weddings , so would be able to do menus for you too.
Hope this helps!

Read the thread January 2010Hello everyone – thanks for all your help!
I've taken your advice and booked my event with an established event company. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to/should name company names on this forum, but the company in question allowed me not only to see their past projects, but also talk directly to their previous clients.
I understand that it's not the role of these clients to sell the event company to me… but it certainly helps make up my mind… and goes a long way to reassure me that it will all be alright! More
Read the thread December 2009I have a lot of problems differentiating between one event organiser and another! They seem to be almost identical, saying that they offer a ‘bespoke service’ and are ‘tailored to each clients needs and requirements’. This doesn't give me much to go on in terms of a tangible product, and makes it hard to work out who the best ones are… Does anyone have any recomendations for a really outstanding event organiser?!

Read the thread December 2009I'm hoping someone can help me – I'm trying to organise a case team dinner for 12 people. They have been commuting to Edinburgh from London for the last 6 weeks, and have requested a scottish themed event. Can anyone recommend a suitable restaurant in London- great if they could do a whisky tasting afterwards too… More
Read the thread December 2009I would definitely suggest Karaoke Box – my friend works in the building next door and is a regular there. I've been a couple of times, and thought it was much better than Lucky Voice. Also, surprisingly, they do really amazing Pizzas – better than many Italian restaurant in London! Apparently they have just refurbished their VIP room too. More

Read the thread November 2009Help! I'm looking for a high-end restaurant venue for a case-team dinner. It's for 60 people, approximately £100 per head, needs to have ‘wow factor’.
Does anyone have any recommendations of large restaurants that would be able to accomodate us. The date for the event is the 6th December, but we want to avoid Christmas menus etc
Any advice welcome… More
Read the thread August 2009I went to a fantastic event at Cinnamon Kitchen in Devonshire Square, so I'd highly recommend it if budget allows. The canapes there were so tasty (I think it's run by the same people as the Cinnamon Club in Westminster) & there is an amazing outside area too! More
Read the thread July 2009I completely agree PJC!
But two more words – China Tang! More
Read the thread July 2009I'd definitely agree with John about Santa Maria del Sur in Battersea- it's a great little place, very authentic and better steaks than Gaucho! Black & Blue also has good steaks, but I wouldn't recommend it or go back there as the service we experienced was so terrible! More
Read the thread July 2009Has anyone heard anything about a new event space inside battersea power station? More
Read the thread July 2009It's not overlooking the river, but Alexandra Palace has a HUGE outdoor space and a boating lake! More
