Hasn’t rated any restaurants this year.

The Don (The Courtyard, 20 St. Swithins Lane, London, London, EC4N 8AD)

Lunch today, Salmon en-croute, the en-croute was soft and uninspiring, the salmon was tasteless, the apple dessert appeared to have been made long before it was served. My lunch partners steak looked as though it had been sitting undrr a hot-plate for a little while, it looked dry and brown outside. The service comprises several youths who were clearly jolly good friends and enjoyed eyeing up the female customers.
Disappointing, the decor is lopsided with metal spirals and large expanses of white walls, strange…
I shall look at other venues in future.

Clos Maggiore (33 King Street, London, London, WC2E 8JD)

The food was on the whole good. The problem here is there is only one area to be, the conservatory. Unfortunately, it can't be booked. I tried booking this area and was told that, “There were no guarantees” that's all very well, so what of the way in which the restaurant makes a judgement as to who gets the conservatory, well, that's a mystery, they won't say, all they say is we will allocate it on the day. I'm afraid I don't enter restaurant lotteries, so I declined to make another booking. My question is, why doesn't the restaurant just tell you it's booked, reason is, they want you to turn up. Not for me. Oh and one other thing I had to keep repeating my name in the phonetic alphabet to the booking waitress, not for me I'm afraid, if I'm paying top dollar.

Roast (Floral Hall, Stoney Street, London, London, SE1 1TL)

I visited Roast with a guest for a late lunch. The food was good but a lunch from Roast set us back £170 (admitedly with a £40 bottle of wine), even so three courses for £170 is quite a mouthful.

The food was ok, and the service is another story. We were around the only table left in the restaurant and yet Roast staff left us with our main course empty plates for around 20 minutes before they were removed. We had to summon a miserable looking waitress whose eyes shot to the top of her head as if saying why me, why should I clean the table, we complained, unfortunately the restaurant manager was unhelpful when we questioned his staff's manner, by this point the miserable waitress had uttered her disgust to other members of staff, in our eye-line. I wrote to the service team who fobbed me off with some lame cliches without telling me how they were going to deal with the situation – appalling service from start to finish.

My advice remove the 17.5% service charge from the bill…
