The Pot Kiln (Frilsham, near Yattendon, Berkshire, RG18 0XX)

I have eaten here before a few times and always been happy. Local food, focus on game – cooked well.

I went again yesterday and found the place has moved up many notches – targeting a star maybe? The food presentation was top restaurant class – the food was perfect on every plate.

We had the potted rabbit and the ox tongue to start – the ox tongue i had was the most tender meat and the most tender cooked tongue i have ever eaten. Good depth of flavour and cooked to perfection – melting and falling apart.

For mains i had the belly of pork and my friend had the duck. The belly pork was cooked to perfection – very tender and not at all dry – the most tender pork i have eaten. Depth of flavour was again there – as to the duck this was again the most tender i have eaten – cooked pink but light in colour and the skin not chewy which is the challenge.

We were too full for desserts so i cannot comment other than to say the selection was good. Service was impeccable, attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. we arrived early and that was no problem for them.

If you have been here before but not recently go back you will see a lot of change from what was already good! If you have not been start going!

Price £70 for two with 2 beers and 2 glasses of wine.
