Tendido Cuatro (108-110 New King's Road, London, London, SW6 4LY)

Having previously thoroughly enjoyed meals at Cambio de Tercio – in my opinion one of the best Spanish restaurants in London – I was taken for my birthday dinner to Tendido Cuatro and it may have overtaken my love of Cambio!

The brilliant service – attentive without being intrusive – helped create a perfect, relaxed yet exclusive atmosphere for our small group, but would also be ideal for couples as well as friends. Delicious, innovative tapas followed by fresh, traditional paella and arroz negro, washed down by fantastic wine (great list to suit all budgets, but we were superbly advised by the manager) provided us with a truly enjoyable and memorable evening that we hope to repeat very soon.

Spanish staff, Spanish food and Spanish wine surrounded by dramatic Spanish bull fighting portraits – a superb evening almost as good as being in Spain itself!

Chez Patrick (7 Stratford Road, London, London, W8 6RF)

I am amazed at some of the negative reviews given to this restaurant as I cannot agree with a single one! (and no.. I am not a paid reviewer!!!).

Having loved Chez Patrick's previous incarnation, Lou Pescadou on the Old Brompton Road, I eagerly followed Patrick to his new restaurant and he does not disappoint. This is a local French restaurant that is simple yet elegant and much like eating in the dining room of a good French home. Prices range depending on your requirements – a daily menu at either £12.50 for 2 courses of £14.50 for 3 as well as the standard menu with mains up to £19 per person, ensure that all budgets and tastes are catered for. The wine list is equally wide ranging, including fantastic value house wine served in carafes.

The meat and fish are always fresh – and being able to seek advice from Patrick himself as to which is best at the time of eating makes the meal all the more enjoyable. I had a wonderful meal there last weekend – quieter than during the week evenings but perfect for a Sunday lunch. I was seriously impressed by a new addition to the starters menu (small squares of foie gras on ginger bread with fresh mango), and my mother thoroughly enjoyed the fish soup which is always a dense and delicious fishy concoction. My husband also loved his crab ravioli – yes this is in a rich sauce, but it is moreishly delicious, fresh fish wrapped in hand made pasta. I had a beautiful piece of grilled sea bass for my main, whilst my father and sister loved a superb chateaubriand – admittedly not cheap at £39 but definitely worthwhile for an incredibly tender piece of meat.

Patrick himself manages the entire restaurant with a sharp eye and equally sharp wit – he enjoys the company of all his clients and personally overseas every table. His charm and warmth are what has made this venue a long term local's favourite – this may not be to everyone's taste, but this is a local French restaurant, not a designer city business venue.
