Thanks Editor : I look forward to the outcome of your inspection and removal of these spectacularly suspicious posts ! Square Meal has always proven to be a very trustworthy source of useful comments from fellow foodies and the blatant manipulation of the system does ruins it for all. More

Thread “The fishiest reader reviews ever..” (in Recommend me a restaurant or a bar)

Altitude 360 – Sunday Brunch.

4 reviews, all first time posts within minutes of one another, all scoring 8-10.

Editor – Can we please have some policing so these scores are not deliberately skewed ? More

Reply to “Square Meal 3 Stars – Accurate ?” (in Recommend me a restaurant or a bar)

Thanks all for your comments. Miss Sushi raises another very valid point and that is the manipulation of reviews. Check the comments against Alfie's Kitchen – in particular the dates posted. I had requested removal of these reviews as they were so blatant but at the time of writing, no action has been taken. This can be a little disheartening for those who invest time submitting considered reviews to the site and do expect to see some form of policing.

Square Meal is generally a very reliable source of information although I do question how frequently classifications and reviews are updated and would urge closer attention. For the record, I am not a Ramsay basher but there is a reason that Hospital Road crashed out of the Top 100 restaurants in the World last year and this is echoed by the generally lukewarm reviews by Square Meal diners. I was also surprised to read that many opinions on this particular restaurant are posted ‘directly’ to square meal and not on the website – I would suggest they be published, after all isn’t the whole objective to collect as many opinions as possible ? Thread “Square Meal 3 Stars – Accurate ?” (in Recommend me a restaurant or a bar)

I notice that Restaurant Gordon Ramsay is still noted as a Square Meal 3* experience. Is this restaurant still worthy of this lofty Square Meal accolade ? Arbutus and The Square better than Le Gavroche and Corrigan's ? The readers disagree… More

Le Gavroche without a doubt. The set menu is exceptional value and there are very few restaurants in London that have the decadence of Le Gav. With a bit of luck you may even meet Chef Roux who I guess is now a celebrity even out of culinary circles. More

Eastside isn't a patch on La Noisette. Club Gascon wins hands down for me – there is a sense of occasion I doubt you will find with The Eastside. I look forward to your review… More

Thread “Food-gasms” (in Restaurant & bar talk)

It is sometimes difficult to detatch the service, atmosphere, decor and preconceptions about a restaurant from what happens in your mouth. Unless you have that that sudden unexpected moment when you remove that piece of cutlery, slowly chew the mouthful, eyes involunatrily close, you break into a smile and are taken over by the most overwhelming sensory overload no tired culinary cliche could aptly describe.
Let's call it a food-gasm.

Those fortunate enough to eat out regularly probably don't have them terribly frequently so I'd be very interested to hear of others experiences. Where was your last food-gasm and what was it? More
