Read the thread 24 April 2012I love the sound of all the different national houses dotted around London for the Olympics. Does anyone know if you have to buy tickets for these in advance, or if you can just turn up? I'm thinking of hosting a couple of small post-work gatherings at houses in and around the City. More
Read the thread 17 January 2012Thanks for this, Christopher – sounds ideal. More
Read the thread 10 January 2012I'm looking for somewhere to hold a party in March and wonder if anyone can help. Ideally it needs to be east ie Spitalfields/Brick Lane/Shoreditch/Bethnal Green etc and not too expensive in terms of hire. Clearly I'll be searching your excellent website ;) too. It would be for around 100 people. More
Read the thread 13 December 2011Our Christmas party organisers always come up with a clever idea relating to people in the office. So one year it was guess the lookalike, another year you had to submit a secret skill or fact about yourself a week before the party, then people had to guess who it was referring to. A print out of baby photos is another good guessing game. Visual aids help with these sorts of things, so a screen is very useful, but good photocopies can also work… More
Read the thread 15 November 2011For me, the two Christmassiest areas in town are Mayfair/St James's (for the townhouse venues and members' clubs) and around Borough Market (Swan at the Globe – esp the Balcony Room upstairs – is my favourite for winter events). More
Read the thread 15 November 2011We want to hire the equivalent of a vodka luge or chocolate fountain to pep up our Christmas party (budgets aren't huge!) but these seem so old hat. What are people doing these days? More
Read the thread 2 August 2011We're having an impromptu team party on Thursday evening – inspired by the good weather – so I'm after a bar with a rooftop where I can book an area at short notice. Or somewhere that has room for 20 if we just show up. City or West End is fine, as long as it's central…
Any ideas welcome! More
Read the thread 22 July 2011Thanks, TB! More
Read the thread 20 July 2011I'm looking for a large London restaurant for a wedding reception. I'm not too fussy about cuisine, as long as it's good and not going to frighten the guests too much, but it does need to have room for 100 in a single space. Any ideas? More
Read the thread June 2010The USA would have been an easy call – BBQ burgers and ribs – but I'm hosting the Algeria game. Any suggestions on what I can serve my guests? I'm not too familiar with Algerian food… More
Read the thread April 2010I'm looking to entertain some of my trendier clients at a music festival this year. Are there any decent one-day options in or within easy reach of London with a fairly mainstream line-up and relaxed VIP hospitality? More
Read the thread March 2010I'm planning a private dinner for 10-12 directors plus top top clients and need some high-end entertainment to liven up the pre-dinner drinks. I'm not averse to magicians or the like but it's got to be someone with a fresh and exciting angle – these guys have seen it all. Does anyone have any ideas? More
Read the thread February 2010Also Molton Brown Sleep Mist spray on the bedside table at the Goodwood Hotel. And a big urn of free miso for members in the lounge at The East Room in Shoreditch – nice touch! More
Read the thread August 2009I agree – the views from Altitude are hard to beat, but the Gherkin just wins for me purely because it's such a fantastic building and has that stunning space in the apex. More
Read the thread July 2009Yes, the owners are hiring the site out for events while they're waiting for the redevelopment to start. Bookings are going through 1st Option events. The interior of the power station was looking pretty rough and ready when I visited earlier this year – they've got a bit of work to do before it's event ready! More
