The Lawn Bistro (67 High Street, London, London, SW19 5EE)

A good addition to Wimbledon. Good food and a particularly good wine list with many interesting wines at sensible prices. Friendly and efficient staff and a decent atmosphere. The food is a shade pricey for what it is, but at least the vino is better value.

Preto (72 Wilton Road, London, SW1V 1DE)

We planned to escape the cold of winter with a taste of Brasil. Having been to many churrascos in Brasil, we feel qualified to opine. Having had a good experience in the Putney branch before, we returned to the Pitney branch in January. My, were we disappointed. Although some staff were friendly, the waiter treated us as if we were a major inconvenience in his life and we may have been more direct if he didn't have such a large knife in his hand. Thankfully, having recognised that most of the meat wasnt worth the effort of munching, we escaped his dubious charms and went around the corner for some cake. Preto needs to raise its game as it can be good when on form.

The Fox & Grapes (9 Camp Road, London, London, SW19 4UN)

Editor's pick

I took my family for a birthday dinner and had an excellent evening. The room is spacious and atmosphere excellent. Staff were friendly and attentive. Food is good particularly the scotch eggs and burgers. The prices aren't cheap and the wine list could be improved and made more reasonable. Overall, a good addition to Wimbledon and a place with character, away from the endless chain restaurants plaguing the high street.
