Hasn’t rated any restaurants this year.

Kicca (100 Draycott Avenue, London, SW3 3AD)

I have been to Kicca 3 times in the last few months, the latest being this week-end, and the food is consistently excellent. The service is quick and gracious and the atmosphere is relaxed. The decor, I agree, is not great, but I still think one goes to restaurants primarily to eat well rather than stare at a slick decor while eating grisly food. So Kicca for me cuts it. The best being its daily specials (I recently had a perfect spaghetti alle vongole, followed by a dreamy Dover sole) and my favourite remains its simplest dish: a plate of mozzarella and Parma ham. Heaven on a plate.

Le Relais de Venise L'Entrecote (120 Marylebone Lane, London, London, W1U 2QG)

This is a rather typical French brasserie so yes, the food is generally good and the service is generally poor. If you go expecting the Ritz, for a 10th of the price, then you will be disappointed.
It's not the place to go to for a celebration dinner or lunch, especially because the turnover is quite quick. It's ideal, however, for a quick-ish meal, when you feel like having steak frites.
The service is indeed quite sharp and Gallic, but the secret is not to take it personally. They don't do it because they hate you, they just like to keep up appearences…
