Albion (2-4 Boundary Street, London, London, E2 7DD)

I go to the Albion regularly and I like the place very much. The British food selection is good and the staff are attractive, cheery and welcoming. The place has a young buzz about it – not Hoxton scruffy but not too formal and stuffy either. I like the idea of the shared tables. The Albion stays open lateish and is a good place on Sunday evenings to bring you back to urban living after a weekend in the country.

Le Bouchon Breton (1st Floor, 8 Horner Square, London, E1 6EW)

I went on Saturday evening booking for two. No need to book though – the place was, regrettfully deserted. It was nice being outside on the terrace overlooking Spitalfields market on a warm summer evening. The waiter was French and entertaining. There was an economically priced special dinner menu although we didn't go with that. The steak and rack of lamb were both excellent. The expresso after the meal was good too. The restaurant interior looked attractive and French but was totally empty. The trouble is you go to restaurants for the buzz as well as the food. Tony Swanson

Boundary (2-4 Boundary Street, London, London, E2 7DD)

A comfortable smart interesting restaurant which four of us tried for the first time on Saturday. The use of food trolleys for salmon, steaks and cheese was bizarre. Our table in a side alcove was very nice. I had the best tasting steak, delicious vegetables followed by a masterpeice rubarb soufle and my friends all enjoyed their choices too. The only disappointment was the service. Confusion and delay over our cocktails and we had to ask repeatedly for more mineral water.

Le Relais de Venise L'Entrecote (120 Marylebone Lane, London, London, W1U 2QG)

I tried this new restaurant with a client today for the first time.

Their “no choice” standard menu came out at £63.20 with a glass of wine each, no dessert but water and coffee. They bring the food twice (you get seconds) which is odd – an idea we didn't like. The steak came with an off putting green sauce on top – it would have been better on the side.

The starter of lettuce with walnuts was pretty dull. The steak smothered with the sauce. There is no healthy alternative to the fries.

The East European waitress was gruff – not at all friendly and we felt we were being rushed. Disappointing.
