Via (Unit 2, Port East Building, Hertsmere Road, London, E14 4AY) Unfortunately happened upon this bar last week on our works party night out, frankly it killed the evening. They open the doors on one side of the bar when their club opens. Blocking this off with a curtain offers nothing in the way of installation on a cold December night, so what was a relatively pleasant spot becomes very unpleasant, very quickly. As we had just ordered some bar snacks and couldn't move to a different place it was quite annoying. The bar snacks were horrendous when they arrived, but maybe they think they can serve crap to people as they will be inebriated to notice. The management clearly didn't give two hoots when issues raised. I realise I am maybe at a time when I expect more from a restaurant/bar but may be not, it shouldn't be so hard to look after your clients, even just a little bit. You have been warned

Automat (33 Dover Street, London, W1S 4NF) Lacklustre welcome from what appeared to be the manager, great example for the staff, waiter redeemed the situation marginally, although mumbled when giving over the menus and never came back to ask if everything was ok after delivering the food. Portion might be large but the food is mediocre at best, personally prefer quality over quantity, only highlight was the smoothie. Then presented with bill for £50 for two burgers, coke and smoothie. Frankly it was worth about half the price. Will not be returning and I would not recommend. We've been before and I've got a feeling the first time we said it was overrated.

Orrery (55 Marylebone High Street, London, London, W1U 5RB) We went on whim for our first anniversary and managed to get a table at very short notice, which was great. The service was impeccable throughout. I had a fois gras parfait, which was glorious, for starter, followed by Tournedos a la Rossini, the steak was very tender, cooked to perfection and the accompaniments very good. For desert I had blueberry soufflé, which again was very good. We had a nice bottle of wine, and although was racked up a reasonable bit, if you stuck to the two course menu with a lower priced wine you the price would actually be good value for the quality of the food and the experience. I will return and would be happy to recommend to others, one of the nicest restaurants I ve been to for a while.

We dined in February, I was really looking forward to it and then read some reviews on the day, and thought, oh no we've booked into a dud. We let the waitress order for us, and probably had two courses too many, we had a couple of the signature dishes that everyone raving about, e.g black cod but they weren't the tastiest, possibly yellow tail with truffles gets that accolade. Service was a little too brisk, and you'd finished one dish and another was arriving before you had chance to cogitate, however, our waitress was perfectly charming and looked after us. I thought the food was overall was wonderful and although I needed to remortgage when the bill came I really enjoyed my meal and would not hesitate to come back again at some point in the future or recommend to others.

Almeida (30 Almeida Street, London, London, N1 1AD) We dined here three days ago, overall I thought it was OK and I would like to come back to give it another go. The day boat gratin was tasty, done to perfection and my partner enjoyed the barbary duck. Service was a little rushed for us and also took three attempts to get the bill right. Buzzy atmosphere and reasonable price.

Northbank (1 Paul's Walk, London, London, EC4V 3QH) We visited today for Mothers day. Service was relaxed but in a nice way and the staff charming. There was a three course meal on offer for £17.95 per head, I had fois gras and chicken liver parfait as a starter, with chutney and toasted bread, the portion was huge, but was tasty. My fellow diners had a salmon and prawn cocktail, which I was told was also good. For main, I had sausage and mash, struggled to pick my main course, as selection a little limited. Main was tasty and again big portion. For dessert I had strawbeery pavlova, which was the only thing that let the meal down. Overall, great restaurant, I would be happy to recommend, not stupidly priced and felt like good value for the food, which was overall good quality, views all good also!
