The Leatherne Bottel (The Bridleway, Goring-on-Thames, Goring, Oxfordshire, RG8 0HS) Went for Sunday lunch and left rather underwhelmed. Dull, rather hushed atmosphere, rather overdone service. Food was mixed, with a reasonable mackerel to start, a very under seared piece of tuna. Main course of loin of pork was ok but a bit dull. Best was the wine list but generally this place just seems to miss. Alex S

My first trip and possibly my last. We were asked to arrive promptly so at 7.45 so that the restaurant could have the table for a later booking. We spent most of the evening chasing our order, the service being inattentive and not particularly charming. When the food did finally arrive it was ok although not hot enough. The wine list was very limited and the quality of both wines chosen by the glass very ordinary. There was nothing ordinary about the bill which was far from value for money given the quality of the food and service. Not sure what everyone has been going on at about here. Alex S

The Square (6-10 Bruton Street, London, London, W1J 6PU) I returned to may favourite restaurant in London but came away feeling rather let down. My guest and I arrived ten minutes early for 12 o'clock lunch booking to be told (in slightly less than charming tones) that tables were still being set. Once we were seated the amuse bouche arrived, was placed on the table, but no explanation was given as to its origins. Nonetheless it was very good. We chose from the well priced set lunch menu. Unfortunately the beef in my first course salad while perfectly cooked was rather chewy. For my main course I chose halibut which was accompanied by a very creamy sauce which was too rich and bland. On my previous visits to the Square I have been so impressed with the standard of cooking and the depth of flavour of the food that I was very disappointed on this occasion. I hope this was a one off and that normal service will be resumed next time.

Cambio de Tercio (163 Old Brompton Road, London, London, SW5 0LJ) I returned here last week having had a delicious dinner there last summer. I was so disappointed to find that the quality of the food had taken a serious dive. While the tapa of pata negra was excellent (and so it should be for the price) some of the cooked dishes were accompanied by heavy, almost gloopy sauce, that were really horrible. The price was also way over the top for what we eat. I shall not be returning which is a pity as the atmosphere is fun.

I had lunch at Galvins Bistrot Deluxe for the first time. I have been wanting to try the restaurant for some time and was not disappointed. I had requested a table with banquette and was duly led to the right table on arrival. Service was attentive and professional. The food was excellent, well presented and full of flavour. We did not have to wait too long for food to arrive and all requests were met efficiently and without fuss. I was surprised to see that it was very busy and I hope it remains so through these difficul times.

Ristorante Semplice (9-10 Blenheim Street, London, London, W1S 1LJ) I had an excellent lunch at Semplice recently. The menus were interesting and different. The food was excellent and the wine recommended by the waiter was also very good. We waited too long before we had to ask a member of staff to take our order and then waited too long for the food to arrive, particularly as it was lunchtime. Also the portions were a little on the small side. However, I could not fault the quality of the food and look forward to going back.
