Jamie's Italian Canary Wharf (Unit 17, 2 Churchill Place, London, E14 5RB)

We love Italian food. Actually, we love any food, but a couple of weeks ago we were in the mood for some Italian, so we popped into Jamie's Italian at Canary Wharf for a spot of lunch.

We arrived just after 1pm and the place was packed. By the looks of things, Jamie's has become a daily fix for hundreds of corporate junkies. We were lucky enough to get a table straight away, which is a good thing, because I was starving (and I get real grumpy when I'm hungry…)

Although the service was just slightly faster than a sluggish tortoise, the food was pretty amazing. I only remembered to take photos of our “nibbles” & was so ravenous by the time our secondi arrived, I devoured my pasta before anyone could say Buon Appetito!

We have been back to Jamie's recently for dinner, and once again left there with happy, full bellies, completely satisfied. The food at Jamie's is absolutely divine, it's only the service that lets the team down every time…

The menu is rustic and not to be compared to your average Italian restaurant, for example they don't serve pizza! But don't fret, you can still get the old classics like Spaghetti Bolognese, Carbonara and Arrabiata. We will be moving to Canary Wharf in a couple of weeks time and I am fairly certain that Jamie's is going to be at the top of our new list of hangouts.

The Vineyard at Stockcross (Stockcross, Newbury, Berkshire, RG20 8JU)

One fine Sunday morning, together with my inlaws and husband, we ventured out of London and into the picturesque countryside, our destination: The Vineyard Hotel at Stockcross, near Newbury in Berkshire. Their website promised a “Gastronomic affair” and what a fine affair it was! The welcome we received upon arrival was warm and inviting and the service remained exceptional from the Apéritifs right through to the Petit fours, it was faultless.

To start with my husband had the salmon sushi – this was anything but your conventional Japanese seaweed wrapped salmon! Accompanied by a cucumber jelly & served upon a slate tile, this starter was simply amazing, as were the others.

Our main courses were all works of art – I had the Roast Lamb, served with roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding & Mediterranean vegetables. Although the chef was a little shy with his gravy boat, the lamb was cooked to perfection & every forkful melted in my mouth.

And then came the desserts… Coffee and clementine soufflé marbled with bitter chocolate and served with clementine sorbet. It was sinful, to say the least!

Talk about a journey through flavours… My palate was thoroughly sated and suitably satisfied! Can't wait to go back.

The Table (83 Southwark Street, London, SE1 0HX)

We found this fabulous little spot to relax while enjoying a spectacular brunch – “The Table” is just a hop, skip and jump down the road from us in Southwark.

With the weather being a tad on the chilly side last Sunday, we were lucky enough to find two bar stools at the end of a communal table inside. The Table's decor is trendy, stylish and sophisticated, while the menu offers a combination of both sweet and savoury, including classics like Eggs Benedict, Smoked Salmon with scrambled eggs or yummy Buttermilk Pancakes – guaranteed to please any breakfast junkie!

My husband ordered Eggs Benedict “two poached eggs served on toasted organic muffin with smoked streaky bacon, and the best hollandaise sauce on Southwark Street”. They weren't lying about that. The eggs arrived with soft runny bright yellow yolks and the hollandaise sauce was satiny, smooth textured, fluffy & light, in other words, flawless! (Trust me, I am very finicky!)

I opted to try the sweetcorn fritter stack – “sweetcorn fritters with char-grilled tomato compote, baby-leaf spinach and two poached eggs with hollandaise”. A stack full of yumminess indeed! The combination of flavours was sensational, the tomatoes were sweet and bursting with intense flavour and the eggs were poached to perfection.

The side orders were too tempting to resist (as if we didn't have enough on our plates already) – we decided to go with the trio package of hand-made pork and leek sausages, home-made ham-hock-infused baked beans & lastly, char-grilled San Marzano tomatoes. Comfort food indeed… to help get your tastebuds dancing!!!

We loved our brunch at The Table and will definately go back there sometime soon, perhaps even to try out their lunch, or dinner menu. The service was good and we enjoyed the bustling vibe.

This is the ultimate weekend brunch spot!
