Royal China Club (40-42 Baker Street, London, W1U 7AJ) Two of us went for a dim sum lunch on a Sunday, for a birthday treat and found it the best dim sum I have ever had. And I have eaten a lot of it. We didnt have any of the other Chinese food so cant comment, but the dim sum was outstanding. Thats' not just because of the quality of the food, but also beacuse it arrived at the table so piping hot, and fresh, that it almost burnt your mouth. Incredible flavours. Highly recommend the sea bass rolls, and the australian lobster puffs. The pastry was so delicate, and not greasy at all. I gave a high service rating more on staff efficiency, and again as the food clearly wasnt hanging around in the kitchen. It wasnt on the friendliness of the staff, which perhaps was a little brusque, though not unexpected. We will definitely be heading back. £105 for two, with a generous order of dim sum, two glasses of champers, two glasses of wine.

Quo Vadis (26-29 Dean Street, London, London, W1D 3LL) Fabulous friendly service, and wonderful buzzy atmosphere. The food was good, but could have been better for the money. Heavily salted octopus salad, and the tub of prawns were small, a lot of effort, but not much taste at the end of it. Steak not bad and fish main courses excellent. But certainly would recommend.

This is a great venue for dinks and a night out, but I really would eat somewhere else first. I have never had a great meal here, but the last time was possibly the worst dining experience I care to remember. It was a birthday for 12 people, but we arrived to a table for 8, despite calling the restaurant that day to confirm. But it was the food that was unforgettable, for the wrong reasons. 4 of us complained and 3 sent back including a simple risotto. My pidgeon was actually 50% raw. How it got out the kitchen I have no idea but it would have made you ill. It also stank so bad that the girl next to me commented. And before you think that it's game and smells strongly, the guy next to me had one that was fine. Of our 12 nobody was particularly happy. I wouldnt knock the venue itself as it has some great bars, over a couple of floors and is a great night. But eat at your peril.

Had a fabulous meal here last night. Really surprised how good it was as wasn't expecting much. Food was excellent, service efficient and friendly. Starters, mains, great bottle of wine, brandy and coffee for 2 at £95. So happy with the bill too.

Yum Cha (28 Chalk Farm Road, London, London, NW1 8AG) Went here on a Saturday night to try and experience some authentic Dim Sum. The place was busy, the service quick (though had to ask repeatedly for extra sauce), but sadly the food was awful. The squid was very chewy. the ribs overly fatty, the nasi goreng tasted of washing up liquid and the pork shubai was full of gristle. Left feeling sick rather than sated.
