About

The Thames Foyer, often regarded as the heart of The Savoy, is steeped in history. This impressive glass-domed atrium is bathed in natural light and features a pianist playing during the day. It’s the ideal setting for breakfast, as well as afternoon tea later in the day, with both options being elevated to the very highest level of decadence.

As one might expect, breakfast here is a lavish affair. The heartiest offering is the house breakfast, which features two free-range eggs, smoked back and streaky bacon, Cumberland sausage, Isle of White tomatoes, baked beans, confit Portobello mushroom and Stornoway black pudding. There are vegetarian and vegan analogues of the above, as well as a continental option or smoked salmon and Champagne option too. These breakfasts all come with freshly squeezed juices, coffee or tea and a selection of bread and seasonal fruits.

Those who are more particular about their morning meal, meanwhile, can instead order a la carte. Egg dishes, for example, include Benedict, Florentine and Royale, as well as the famous omelette ‘Arnold Bennett’, which was invented at the hotel. On toast, diners can enjoy crushed avocado with harissa and poached egg, sauteed spinach and feta or even brown crab with avocado and poached egg. Smoked salmon bagels with cream cheese are available too, as are charcuterie and cheese boards. Those with a sweeter tooth can instead enjoy the likes of waffles, pancakes and cereals, with children’s options available for the little ones.

Afternoon tea here is similarly extravagant. The savoury selection features delicious sandwiches like Burford Brown egg and Norfolk watercress, British pastrami with celeriac remoulade and Dorchester wasabi mayo, and Moscatel pickled English cucumber with herbed ricotta spread. Open sandwiches, meanwhile, feature caviar and smoked salmon as well as feta with squash and kale. The sweet selection, not to mention the tea itself, is just as decadent, making this one of the finest afternoon teas in the country.

Very relaxing pleasant surroundings, classy decoration, high standards of service and very good food. Probably the best place in London for afternoon tea.
