SquareMeal Review of Green Door Steakhouse

Flaming torches, a pounding soundtrack & a rather prosaic menu make Green Door seem like a tourist trap designed to snaffle unaware visitors stumbling out of Gloucester Road Tube station. Luckily, the quality of the meat keeps fans of its keep-it-simple approach coming back for more. Main courses are a confused bunch, ranging from chicken with couscous & linguine arrabbiata to Flintstone beef ribs ‘to eat with both hands’. Matters are more straightforward when it comes to signature dishes, which put steak in the spotlight: tournedos Rossini puts in an appearance, while rib-eye, fillet & sirloin come in a variety of sizes with a selection of sauces (an extra £15 lets you accessorise your steak with half a lobster). Prices are reasonable & the wine list is dependable – if unadventurous.

We went to the Green Door in Gloucester Road last Friday night (14 May) and had an amazing dinner. We ordered two bottles of wine, the 2008 Overstone Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand and the 2005 Old Vine Zinfandel from California. We both ordered the Soup of the day (creamy mushroom) as our starter and the crushed black pepper fillet steak as our main. The soup was a perfect size not too big not to small, tasty and light. The Sauvignon Blanc was a great choice to have with our starters light and fruity and possibly one of the best I have had in a long time within that price range. After our delicious soup we had the most amazing steak I have ever eaten in London. It was tender, full flavoured and the crushed black pepper just added that extra bite. Each mouth full was better than the next that you savoured every bite in the hope it was not going to come to an end. The Zinfandel was perfectly matched with the fillet, smooth and spicy just what you want with a tender juicy steak. We decided to have a break after the first two courses, enjoy our wine and create some space for the mouth watering deserts we spotted on display. I ordered the Vanilla cheese cake and my partner had their famous chocolate fondant. The cheese cake was light and creamy (nothing beats a fantastic cheese cake!). The fondant is definitely for the chocolate lover, rich and heavy, my partner loved each bite! After our deserts the waiter presented us with a complementary digestive or as I liked to call it a cheeky little shot of all the nice mixtures behind the bar. All in all the food was amazing the service was fantastic and I would recommend the Green Door Steak House Gloucester Road to anyone and everyone.

Good place, though be careful if you haven't booked and there's only two of you, we got stuck next to the loo's both times I've been and it always feels like it's the extra table they left out in case. Food is lovely though, and the service is still pretty good

Sometimes only a bloody steak will do. So I visited this steakhouse for the first time last week and left 2 hours later feeling very full and satisfied. The restaurant itself reminds me of places in NY, in a good way. We started with a couple of very good Mojitos and decided to skip the starters when we saw the steaks pass us by. I enjoyed a 10oz medium-rare Fillet and it was cooked exactly as I like it and melted in my mouth. My friend had the T-Bone – a huge succulent chop. To go with our meat we shared broccoli, spinach, avocado salad and mashed potatoes. Overall the meat was delicious and cooked well – I don't remember last time I had a steak like this in London, and the side dishes were simple yet flavourfull. The only thing that I would suggest is a review of the wine list, because it is not as vast as it should be at a steakhouse, especially for reds.
