About

Thankfully, there is no shortage of steak and burger restaurants in London. Walk down any street and you’re sure to find at least one, but Black & Blue is different. For starters, it was the first ‘modern American steakhouse’ to come to the city.

Secondly, it's got a unique burger recipe, which they’ve been applying for more than 30 years, and a long list of local suppliers. You can tell that the main aim is quality – ‘the boys’ that run Black & Blue were set on controlling their meat from beginning to end, focusing on giving diners the best cuts they could at an affordable price – and they did just that.

On the menu, you’ll find your standard cuts of beef (ribeye, flat iron, the list goes on) all served with fries, house salad and a selection of sauces – because you can’t go wrong with a steak, right? For those of you who are on a budget, the Pavé rump steak frites is a great option. Its famous burger (the only one on the menu) comes with the option of lots of add-on if you are feeling adventurous. For when you aren’t quite in the mood for red meat, the chargrill has a selection of dishes, including vegetarian options. Expect to find king prawns, sea bass fillet with baby potatoes and baked field mushrooms with grilled veg and goat’s cheese.

When it comes to drinks, you're covered. Offering up your standard beers, wines and soft drinks, it also has a selection of cocktails. Opt for a peach Bellini to accompany your meal, or if it’s mocktails you’re after, the apple Mojito sounds delightful.

The signature peppermint exterior and classic bistro style-interior is ideal for when you want a relaxed dinner. Its good quality cuts of meat and generous portion sizes will fill you up regardless of when you decide to visit this all-day dining restaurant.

I was actually pleasantly surprised with Black & Blue – we managed to get a table on a Saturday night but ive been nearby before and seen many waiting. Food was lovely and good value for money. My friend and i shared a beef main, which came with two sides of fries and a huge bowl of salad. Beef was more on the rare side but you could have asked for it to be cooked more if required. The overall atmosphere is a very cool posh old diner type place – a good date spot or a carnivorous feast with friends. The bill came to £52 for the shared main, one glass of wine and two puddings – which i felt was a really good deal. You definitely dont feel hard done by with the portions and its certainly somewhere where id go back as a good alternative to all the posh places nearby – sometimes all you want is a decent steak and i think this is the place to beat.
