SquareMeal Review of Taqueria

Bronze Award

With its lively Latin beats, bare floors and portraits of revolutionary hero Zapata on the walls, this cheerful, scruffy and cheap little dive captures the old boho buzz of Notting Hill. Messy but delicious Mexican food is the order of the day, so get your fingers around succulent palm-sized tacos – perhaps stuffed with shredded slow-cooked pork, pickled jalapeño, green pepper and citrus. There are also crispy tostadas topped with ceviche, as well as home-cured chorizo, chicken marinated in beer, and even smoked cod with guacamole, roast corn and chipotle – all backed by essential sides such as refried black beans. Be sure to save room for some deep-fried churros or a rich pudding with cajeta (the Mexican version of dulce de leche). Drink beer and Tequila if you’re brave, ‘aquas frescas’ (flavoured water) if you’re not.

Racist

I went there thinking it was a safe latino space but as soon as I enter the owner comes out throws me out and says they don't service my kind while rolling out the red carpet for white customers. Definitely won't be coming back it was giving colonization vibes  like we are gonna steal your food and culture as a white British business owner but won't service actual Mexican people.

Basura

Not worth it :(

It just was not for me.  The food was not very good for the value and there is much better Mexican food at other restaurants near by. I wanted to like it so bad

Staying away forever.

Pathetic place of a restaurant that doesn’t focus on the food quality. Horrible owners, they should be sued for their entitled behavior

Shame on taqueria, ismael munoz amorin is a moron

Disgusting, shame on you Taqueria, Ismael Muliz is moron, places like this one shouldn't exist, trying to appropriate Mexican cultural and even forbid a Mexican person to use a Mexican word

Very authentic, you can tell everything is made from scratch and with love. Team is always smiling and happy to have you. Great mezcal. Good vibe overall!

Amazingly fresh and flavourful Mexican food in a relaxed, casual yet elegant neighbourhood setting. Great for lazy lunches, girlie brunches, date nights or entertaining friends. The food is always bursting with goodness and can be customised to be healthy as well as tasty. The mezcal selection is pretty amazing as well.

Slightly flawed but acceptable Mexican
At Taqueria, the service is very good. With that out of the way, the dining room is cramped, the menu is not confusing in a classical, London “small-dish-you-need-at-least-25-per-person” way, but seems to be specifically design to confuse and mislead. Some “starters” are (far too) large, some “mains” are tiny even by nouvelle cuisine standards. The good point is, that this is good Mexian food made out of good ingredients, so whatever the randomly assigned portion size, you will not be left felling terrible. A very 21st Century Notting Hill Mexican experience then (Mexico City on Regent's Canal anyone?) , but one where as so often the “concept” has spoiled an otherwise good kitchen. One leaves feeling sorry for the staff who do their best to explain the maze of a menu and are exhausted from constantly answering questions about what is what and how its made.

for 6 quid at lunchtime (12-4pm weekdays) you can have a bowl of warming broth (caldo tlapeno) with chicken, rice, avocado and chickpeas. Its filling and delicious and comes with two quesadillas on the side – perfect for re-fuelling I agree with the other reviewers – this is not greasy tex mex – this place serves authentic tasting mexican tacos
