SquareMeal Review of The Boar's Head

Situated just three miles from Harrogate, this ‘model estate village’ was rebuilt in the 1830s by the hereditary owners of Ripley Castle (the Ingilby family), whose duties now include overseeing The Boar’s Head and its personally chosen wine list. Produce from the estate features heavily on the menu in the bistro/bar and the more contemporary brasserie, with British ideas ruling the roost – don’t miss the renowned wild boar and black pudding terrine, the ‘manly man’ ham salad or the grilled Nidderdale lamb chops with sautéed lamb’s kidneys and a mini shepherd’s pie. The kitchen also cast its net beyond these shores for the likes of chicken Kiev, grilled bream fillet on smoked mussel risotto or honey-glazed pork shank with chorizo and bean cassoulet. Visitors staying over can also gain complimentary access to Ripley Castle and its historic gardens.

Sorry for staff!!
The pub was very busy because it was the Ripley Christmas Fair. Quite clearly there wasn’t enough staff members. The staff were run off their feet.We waited for sometime to pay our bill. The person who took the payment was serving someone with drinks and preparing our bill at the same time!! If you value your staff and customers then you shouldn’t expect your staff to work in such stressful conditions. They are not paid enough!!
