SquareMeal Review of Babble City

With affordable Champagne cocktails and other sips with names including Brain Booster and Work in Mexico, there are reasons aplenty to shut down your PC on the stroke of 5pm for an extended happy hour at this fun, weekdays-only bar. Slick, metro sexy interiors (think Gossip Girl) encompass three different rooms and an outdoor terrace, but glam surrounds doesn’t mean sky-high prices – the wines and spirits on offer here are surprisingly affordable. All the classic cocktails are available, alongside signature serves and sharers. Looking to up the ante on your night out? Babble also offers party packages.

AVOID THIS PLACE
I hired Babble City (after being redirected there by Sophie from Novus Entertainment, who deal with many venues throughout London) I hired the venue for a private 50th birthday party for my wife. I put more than the minimum spend required (in total £2200) behind the bar. My guests spent £2050 but I was refused a refund of the difference. )Its only luck that I didn't put more behind the bar as they didn't inform me of this particular scam that they run) In addition the barstaff did not inform my guests that there was a free bar so some of my guests inadvertently paid for other drinks. At 7.30pm, the start time of the booking, there was no indication given about where the party was - and because there was more than one private party being held at the venue guests had to wander around in search of my party. The DJ ( which i £250 paid for) was playing music in my bar and also downstairs at the SAME time via a loop through the venue. They never told me this would happen and so it meant the choice of music was limited. My 18 daughter was ejected by a very aggressive bouncer. My 16 year old daughter was not allowed to enter the venue even though i promised that she would not be consuming alcohol. This was awful, and very upsetting for my wife as this was supposed to have been a birthday we could all celebrate together as a family. Licenesing rules state this would have been fine but the very aggressive and unhelpful staff refused to even discuss it. on the coldest day of the year she wasnt even allowed in to wait for her Uber. Overall the staff where very unhelpful and impolite. I would highly recommend you steer clear of any venues run by this company. The issues mentioned here are only a few of the things that I endure. Novus Leisure should look into the serious lapses in the way they deal with the public. A scam.

Staff are pleasant and welcoming. Although they could not find my booking, they luckily had room for us. The main courses are filling but not too much. The main courses are reasonably priced, I had steak frites and side salad with lemon dressing for under £14, although I was not keen on the lemon dressing. I can recommend the traditional fish and chips and the burger looked fine.

I visited this venue with a group of 8 friends for a small celebration so we booked seating in the VIP area as part of a deal they were offering. Rarely have I felt less like a VIP and more like someone being mugged by a particularly amoral hoodie. As part of the booking we had agreed to pre-pay for 4 bottles of champagne, a bottle of vodka with mixers & a round of shots as well as some food and they gave us a fixed price for this order. Although I arrived initially with one friend as the rest of the group were joining later the staff immediately started repeatedly bothering us to insist they bring over 2 bottles of champagne as for some reason they couldn't keep them on ice and bring them when required. They repeated this annoying behaviour right up until when my other friends arrived at which point our ‘dedicated server’ was suddenly nowhere to be found and remained impossible to get hold of for the rest of the evening. The atmosphere in general was ok apart from when the music would randomly stop for 20 minutes giving all the patrons time to look slightly bored, confused & uncomfortable. At the end of the evening we had only been served three quarters of the drinks we had prepaid for as the shots and some of the champage failed repeatedly to arrive and yet they still brought us a bill for £600 which included all the drinks that were included in the prepay and others we never had. The waitress was unhelpful so I asked for the manager which was a mistake because he was the rudest most condescending and unpleasant toad of a man I've ever had the misfortune to meet. He insisted I had to prove we hadn't had the drinks they had ‘mistakenly’ added and I had to track down the waitress to get her to admit they had made the error. Although I was the designated sober & responsible person I was treated like an outrageous drunk they felt they could fleece because I wouldn't bother to argue about it. That was their mistake. Mine would be letting anyone I know go there again.
