SquareMeal Review of The Tearoom at Dimbola

The statue of Jimi Hendrix in the garden might look rather incongruous in a Victorian photographic museum, but it’s all about the island and its people at Dimbola – musos and ageing hippies will remember that Hendrix played a small part in the island’s history when he topped the bill at the now infamous 1970 music festival. Pictures of the event are displayed on the first floor, alongside famous Victorian photographer Julia Margaret Cameron’s snaps (this was once her home) – so check them out before parking yourself amongst the potted plants and antique cameras for some terrific homemade cakes, all served by kindly volunteers. Lunch brings retro classics such as Stilton and broccoli soup or macaroni cheese, and there’s also the prospect of a roast chicken with all the trimmings – if you rock up on Sunday.
