SquareMeal Review of Masala Zone Covent Garden

Bronze Award

Restaurant group MW Eat reopened this popular Masala Zone late in 2016. Following an extensive renovation, it now makes an exuberant backdrop for business lunches and private parties. Our favourite new touch is the striking collection of 350 ceremonial Rajasthani puppets that hang from the ceiling in the main dining area. You’ll find the private dining room downstairs. This exotic space echoes the rich decor on the floor above and gives groups access to all of the kitchen’s best-known dishes. Look out, in particular, for traditional Indian street food, family-style sharing thalis and regional curries.

Raw chicken - avoid!

Raw Chicken!!! Do not go. Ok I ordered this via Deliveroo on the busiest Easter weekend of the year. I live in concert garden and I’m lucky to be able to eat out and go to many amazing Indian restaurants I opened my take away and got this. I walked back over to the restaurant and spoke to the manager who did say they’d give me a refund but only via Deliveroo- Deliveroo only issued me a refund for the chicken item.

The most outrageous think though was that the restaurant owner/ manager then tried to convince me that some of his customers actually like chicken raw. I then said ok , why don’t you eat this now and tell me you are happy with it.- which of course he was not prepared to do and then proceeded to get very angry with me. Personally I’d avoid this place as what’s to say your food won’t be contaminated with raw chicken. I have proof of my order so please don’t try snd suggest this is not a legit review. ??photos won’t upload to prove but I gave them :-)

Excellent food, friendly service, good value for money
We visited late on a Sunday after a show and the restaurant was still buzzing with a nice atmosphere. The service was prompt, efficient and friendly (we had a few special requests), and the food was superb. I would recommend the regular Thali with butter chicken, delicious! Considering that Masalazone is in the heart of Covent Garden, tourist country, the meal was very good value indeed. I can't comment on the drinks as we had tap water. We will definitely visit again and can wholeheartedly recommend Masalazone, Covent Garden.

Middle of the road Indian. Food OK but not exciting. Service poor, very difficult to attract attention. Will not return

Great all round restaurant
I have visited Masala Zone in Covent Garden several times and it its always good. The staff are friendly and helpful they explain the menu to you before you order which is a nice touch! The food is delicious. I usually have the Thali which means you get to sample a bit of everything! Great restaurant very highly recommended.

Fast, friendly and informative staff, good range of food
I booked Masala Zone Covent Garden for a friend's birthday on a Friday night, and was pleasantly surprised with the service. Our table was in a great location and we were served promptly by friendly staff. We were given multiple explanations of the menu(!), and we were given suggestions on how to get a good range of traditional Indian dishes at a low price. The food came quickly but we didn't feel at all rushed to leave. The only real negative was that the noise level was quite high. It was fine for the start of a birthday night out, but I certainly wouldn't suggest it for a romantic evening! Ideal for quick Indian meal in central London, and perfect if you're on a budget. Not one to pick for a special meal but worked well as a pit stop before a night of cocktails.

Delightful
This is a very smoothly run, moderately priced Indian restaurant in the heart of Covent Garden that shouldn't be missed by those who consider themselves well-versed in the cuisine of the sub-continent. We found both food and atmosphere conducive to casual conversation in a festive atmosphere. The Thali is delightful and nicely spiced.
