About

Built on the site of the long-lost Curtain Theatre – wherein Shakespeare himself performed and Romeo and Juliet was allegedly premiered – this old Shoreditch alehouse is now colloquially referred to as the ‘disco pub’. The rickety Georgian boozer’s twin dance floors get hectic and steamy at weekends when house, funk, garage and rare groove rule. Top-draw DJs of the calibre of Dimitri From Paris, Greg Wilson and Todd Terje create dance-floor bliss until 4am. Fuel your moves with Greene King or St Austell ales, continental or Yankee beers, reasonably priced wine, or cocktails that include Cucumber Mojito and Aperol Spritz. The place is open during the day for ‘lite’ lunch from £5, then US-style street-food specialists supply belly-busting supper-time chow: the likes of mac & cheese, garlicky gambas and beef-loaded nacho platters. Five-bean chilli is among a selection of filled brioche buns garnished with guacamole or sour cream and coriander slaw.
