SquareMeal Review of Wahaca Southbank

Thomasina Miers' ever-growing Wahaca chain launched this site as a temporary venture at London’s Southbank Centre to coincide with the Festival of the World, but its popularity has ensured that the venue will be turned into a permanent, bricks-and-mortar restaurant from summer 2014. Sitting on the terrace of the Queen Elizabeth Hall, overlooking the river, the two-storey restaurant has been fashioned from eight recycled shipping containers, with murals and graffiti adding extra colour to site. The menu comprises a line-up of seasonally changing Mexican specials: expect experimental stuff, with bold flavours and ideas. There’s also a dedicated Tequila bar for those who fancy a shot or two.

Great meal with an awesome view and lovely people

We were met by a super friendly Alejo at the door and offered a lovely table with stunning views of the river. The place was decked out with decorations which were really colourful. We started off with margaritas, followed by pork tacos, and some vegan choices (I'm veggie but often go vegan) including melted hot quesadillas. No space for desserts but they looked good.

Abusive and Racist comments passed by staff/server

I'm writing to you regarding an utterly bitter and racist experience at Wahaca Southbank. The incident occurred between 9:15 and 9:30 pm on July 16th, 2022. The server who was  seemingly from Bangladesh passed lewd and racist remarks at my girlfriend. He was way abusive (in Hindi) about her height, skin tone and things that cannot be mentioned. This is a serious matter. I've attempted to provide my feedback on the site and on Instagram, but havent heard any response. Her friends were kind enough not to call the police. We'd like his name and other details for a  formal complaint. Please reach out to me regarding this matter. This is time-sensitive.
