Housed in the grandiose surroundings of a converted bank, this is a favourite haunt of Glasgow’s theatre crowd and fans of cool, cosmopolitan venues. The swanky bar deals in Champagne, cocktails and tinkling salon music, while the bustling brasserie offers leather banquettes and booths, black-aproned staff and a menu that trots around Europe before looking further afield for inspiration. Goats’ cheese pannacotta, Thai-spiced smoked salmon and braised beef cheek with clapshot could give way to spaghetti with crab and chilli oil, duck breast with Puy lentils or salmon and scallops steamed in a paper bag with ginger, spring onions and sticky rice. There are also pies for the meat eaters and salads for the veggies, plus desserts such as lemongrass crème brûlée. Special ‘graduation menus’ please the university crowd.
