Billing itself as a reformed house of ill repute, Malmaison Edinburgh is on the outskirts of the Scottish capital, easily arrived at by road – there’s a complimentary car park when you get there – or a short cab ride from Waverley station. Built in 1883, the former seaman’s mission still has its harbour views, but now offers 100 bedrooms and suites, as well as an outdoor terrace that can seat 120 for alfresco events. Indoors, there are a couple of private-dining options: the Wine Tasting Room has a sommelier on hand to help you match booze to fine food; Mal 4 has space for 60 and the facilities to double as a meeting spot. Four further function rooms offer natural daylight, nippy Wi-Fi and conference calling.
