SquareMeal Review of The Hinchliffe Arms

Local saviours Miles and Linda Laprell have breathed new life into this handsome old inn at the bottom of a lush Yorkshire valley, and it attracts all sorts of folk: walkers, cyclists, horse riders and dog-walkers regularly descend on the place, with crowds congregating outside when the sun shines. Inside, expect a designated drinkers’ area and a comfortable dining room with a roaring fire. You can fill up with traditional pub grub if sausage and mash is your thing, but there’s an adventurous young chef in the kitchen who is also prepared to tackle more elaborate, ambitious stuff – think ballottine of ox cheek wrapped in leeks with carrot purée and sautéed garlic gnocchi or roast squirrel with Toulouse sausage cassoulet. Miles is passionate about his real ales, and there’s a terrific wine list too.
