The large grounds were beautifully presented with shrubs, flowers and well kept lawns. We were blessed with very warm sunny weather so coffee or drinks outside on the patio was a lovely way to start or end the day. Room was clean and the beds comfortable. Breakfast on both days provided a superb choice of cereals, continental items and full English breakfast choices. The staff were welcoming and helpful and we would like to mention Tina as being particularly smiley, welcoming, efficient, helpful, epitomising “hospitality” in its truest sense. We would also like to give a particular mention to Ollie in the bar on our arrival on the first day. His was very welcoming and friendly which made us feel immediately at home. The hotel is an events venue so weddings and conferences are frequent. This shouldn’t affect guests as they are in separate accommodation, but in our experience, a wedding on our second day, impacted on our evening meal hugely. Whether this was just a coincidence obviously I can’t determine. First night evening meal was superb. Food delicious, service timely and staff attentive and efficient. Second night, when a wedding was in progress, after 90 minutes sat at the table, we had only had our starter. We asked if there was a problem, only to be told there was no problem and the chef was just preparing our meal now. Preparing after 90 minutes of us placing our order????? The food was then not up to the standard of the previous evening. No genuine apology or acceptance of that wait being unacceptable, was forthcoming from the Maitre D. Thankfully, whilst checking out the following morning, having asked if we had enjoyed our stay, the member of reception staff did take the time to listen to our experience of our dinner the previous evening. Sadly I didn’t get her name, but her apology, acceptance of the service being unacceptably tardy and promise to pass our comments on to the various depts appeared very genuine and sincere. Thanks to her handling of our check out, we left on a far more positive note.

Nice room but needs refurbishing and upgrading. In my opinion the food served for dinner and breakfast is average at best. Restaurant is very dull and boring with seating that is too low and very uncomfortable. Service is ok but once again very dull.

We stay here when travelling to and from Plymouth Ferry Port. The staff under the supervision of Rachel are all excellent, friendly and professional making a stay here with our Labrador extremely pleasant. The food choices are very good, especially Toms Steak and Ale Pie. Rooms always very clean and include a little doggie treat, and there are good walks around the area.
