Phoenix Palace (5 Glentworth Street, London, NW1 5PG) Went there for a family dinner on Saturday (two reasons behind choosing this place was – Chinese and child-friendly). Had a very good meal – enjoyed through and through, even by my fussy-and-very-little-eating 8 y.o. son. For starters, Chrispy seaweed came in a generous portion and of very pleasant taste, and deep fried shredded squid was nicely done (I would prefer it more salty, but that's my individual salt-mad taste). Peking dumpling in soya chilli dressing were a bit bland to my taste, or may be required a different sauce, but Crab meat sweek corn soup was very very nice. For mains, King prawn with scrambled egg was perfect for the kid (succulent huge prawns in a delicious scrambled egg), Quick fried Squid with morning glory in shrimp paste was absolutely delicious, and Enoki Mushroom E-Fu Noodle was very nicely cooked and came in a huge portion (had to share between us too and took some home as well). For Saturday night dinner the place was packed full, but this did not affect the service which was very prompt and efficient, the toilets clean and decorated to a high standard, and the kid watched the fish in the aquarium and got a lovely paper dragon to play with. Will definitely be back.

Brought a group of very fussy VIP diners there on Tuesday for lunch. We had a table arranged at the window so enjoyed a fantastic view over London on what happened to be a sunny day. Service was great, and I'd like to say a special THANK YOU to Segolene for bearing with us and doing all the complicated ever-changing arrangements for us – you're a star!! Food was excellent, a good rival to our favourite China Tang, but in a much nicer setting! Won't comment on any particular dishes, as we ate soooo much, but everything was perfect! We'll definitely be back soon!

Yauatcha (15 Broadwick Street, London, W1F 0DL) Brought a group of very fussy VIP diners there for a VERY quick lunch (they just had 40 min!!), and was really concerned on how this would all go. Firstly, the service at the time of booking was excellent, they really went out of their way to understand our worries, and help create a tailored visit. Secondly, when the group arrived, the service was very quick which helped us run our schedule smoothly. And, finally, the food – fantastic! The group went for Dim Sum group lunch menu, and there was sooooooo much to eat and every little bit was absolutely delicious! Teas were excellent as well. My group are very spoilt diners who dine at world's best restaurants all over the world, and they were really impressed (even with the vegetarian options which are normally not exciting). Overall, a great experience with great service – I'll definitely book the same group back there on their next visit!

Went there for a quick business lunch. The interior looks fantastic, art deco definitely works for this particular place. Tables are spaced out nicely, and it's one of few places in London where you can actually talk during meal and not to shout to be heard. Wine cellar on both sides of the entrance looks impressive, and the restaurant prides itself on the special wine vacuum machines which allow them to serve expensive wines by glass without imposing the whole bottle on you. Service is immaculate and inobtrusive. A very nice selection of Italian breads served before meal. For starter, the Sea bass “Connolo” was great, the fish retaining the full flavour and its delicate texture, whilst the crispy coating adding a nice twist to it. I hate celery with all my heart, but it tastes lovely there, so don't let it put you off. Partridge poached in cabbage leaves was very succulent, and did not leave any unpleasant aftertaste (as may sometimes happen with game). I didn't have much room for dessert which I regret with all my heart, however the tiny Italian hand-made sweets they served with coffee were lovely (almond ones are a real treat, and the bergamoth zuccerini are a must with tea!!). Overall, very very good.

Launceston Place (1a Launceston Place, London, W8 5RL) Went for lunch in May 2009. Fabulous!!! I went for a set lunch menu (although I was also offered a la carte and a special tasting menu). The scallops were deliciously tender with full flavour, and served beautifully in the shell which rested on a pile of tiny shells and pebbles. Butter on a large flat pebble was a lovely touch. Amuse-bouche of cauliflower soup was amazing. Beef chop for the main course was lovely cooked and so tender you can eat it without the knife, like a pudding. Eton Mess was great. Service was impeccable, and they also did a nice show-around as I asked for more info on the venue. Will definitely be back. Highly recommended.

Le Deuxieme (65a Long Acre, London, WC2E 9JH) Went for lunch there in early May 2009. The restaurant is tiny, and the decor leaves much to be desired – stained walls, dusty chairs, chipped flower vases on tables. However, the service was very quick and nice, and the orders were taken promptly. The food was absolutely lovely. Warm goat cheese with walnut sause was exquisite, and beetroot marinated salmon on blinis was wonderful. Rib eye steak was perfectly done and very succulent, and leg of duck was also delicious. Will definitely go again for an informal meal, as this place is lovely, particularly if you don't care too much about decor of the room.

The Goring Restaurant (The Goring, 15 Beeston Place, London, SW1W 0JW) Went for a lunch in February 2009. Nice British food, properly cooked – although if you're not a great fan of British cuisine, you may just as well go spend your money anywhere else. Haggis was good (as good as a haggis can be), but pork shoulder was a bit elastic and chewy. Linley decor in the restaurant is ok but not outstanding. Overall, a good choice if you want quintessentially British atmosphere and ambience together with some signature British dishes, but not particularly delicious or entertaining.

Went for dinner in December 08, we had a tasting menu for our group, which consisted of lots of small portions to share – just could not stop tasting every little bit, they were all very tasty and presented in a lovely way. Desserts were tiny buy absolutely lovely. Also lunched there on another occasion, and the risotto was marvellous. Service is excellent – Mandarin's trademark. Will definitely go there again.

Went there for a business lunch. Lunch-time was quiet, so we could actually relax and talk. We went for an a la carte. Marinated scallops were very nicely cooked with delicate flavour, fillet of turbot was lovely and also beautifully presented, and a BABA comme a Monte-Carlo was absolutely delightful (such a lovely change from regular boring desserts). Cannot comment on wine as I never drink at lunch. Service was good and inobtrusive. Will definitely recommend for a VIP business eating-out, and the Table Lumiere is definitely a must for any romantic occasions (recommended a colleague to take the wife there for their wedding anniversary, and they were both delighted).

The Glasshouse (The Grove, Chandlers Cross, Hertfordshire, WD3 4TG) I've been there three times (stayed at the Hotel), and each time the food was fantastic. Meat is nicely done (if you want it medium rare, it will be perfectly medium rare), very fresh, served beautifully. Desserts are a real treat. Will definitely come back.

My boss went there for a business lunch and was left disappointed (comparing to his previous visit a year ago). The place did not look clean, there were lots of flies, and one fly dropped in his colleague's water glass. When they made it to the dessert, as soon as he tuck in he found a long thick hair stuck in the pudding – yuck!!! Overall, not worth all the hype and definitely not worth booking two months (!) in advance.

Umu (14-16 Bruton Place, London, W1J 6LX) Went there myself some time ago, the food was delicious and presented in a most beautiful way. The waiteress was exquisitely nice and polite, and took the time to properly explained every dish served. Sake is fantastic, best in London. After that, a group of my colleagues went for private dining there on three different occasions, and after each one have nothing but brilliant feedback. The restaurant actually make an effort to remember loyal clients, and they took care to offer them different food each time ("oh, we do remember that last time you liked this – try this one now" etc). One of the colleagues is highly allergic to seafood and fish – they made awesome vegetarian sushi for her, with no fish/seafood/seaweed which were absolutely divine. Overall, highly recommended!

Nobu Berkeley St (15 Berkeley Street, London, W1J 8DY) Went there with friends on a Monday night. Food-wise it was excellent, we really enjoyed every little bit of it. Service was surprisingly poor – they brought us two large platters of food which seemed to be what we ordered, and just as we were about to tuck in, a waiter came up, claimed it was not for us and snapped the dish away. OK, we turned to the other platter on the table and got the chopsticks ready – whoops, another waiter jumped in, claimed that wasn't for us either and took this one away too!.. our jaws dropped. They did bring the proper order later but there was no apology.

Imperial China (White Bear Yard, 25a Lisle Street, London, WC2H 7BA) Went to Imperial China with 2 friends and a child. Food was very average which surprised me after the brilliant reviews I read. Noodles with beansprouts were a bit greasy, and chicken with cashew nuts was plain bland. No prawn crackers offered at the start of the meal, which was a bit surprising. Pong Pong prawns on sugar canes were nice (recommend for the kids!), but next day after the meal I cannot recollect what I was eating – nothing stands out. Wine was OK. Service is below average due to half of the waiters not speaking any English – they would call someone else who can speak! They had difficulties understanding how many portions we ordered and how exactly we'd like that cooked. We asked for 3 fruit platters (each platter for min.2 people), instead they brought us one tiny plate and claimed it is for 3 people! At that time we just gave up, it wasn't worth the struggle. Overall, food OK, but nothing which would make a dining out occasion really special. The kid (7 y.o.) loved watching the koi carps in the pond, though, kept him entertained.

Nobu London (Metropolitan Hotel, 19 Old Park Lane, London, W1K 1LB) Feb 2009 – excellent food for sharing (black cod and wagyu beef were totally brilliant). Service was good, but the restaurant on a Monday night was extremely noisy – there were 4 of us at a very small table, and we had to shout to keep up the conversation, otherwise won't hear each other! Left the restaurant pleasantly full but nearly deaf. Also, too many waiters running around or just loitering and chatting to each other – feels like a busy train station!
