The Private Rooms at China Tang - 'Get A Room' from Square Meal The Magazine, Summer 2006 Information:
When a designer puts his name to a restaurant, it has got to impress with clever layouts as well as good looks and China Tang, David Tang’s luxurious Chinese within the Dorchester hotel, certainly does. In addition to a glamorous main dining room and swish bar, it has no less than four very flexible private rooms, which can be used individually or as a single space. The theme for the restaurant is Shanghai decadence and this shines through in the rooms, which combine gorgeous antiques with clever modern touches, such as integrated music systems and large plasma screens, tucked away behind ornate sliding doors.
Largest of the rooms is Ping, which seats a maximum of 18 guests around a single large table with a giant ‘lazy Suzan’ in the middle – very handy for sharing the delicious food on offer. Ping leads through to Pang, Pong and The Library, which all seat between 14 and 16, the latter with the option of sliding back the doors that separate it from the main dining room (which we hear George Clooney did during a recent dinner). When used together, the four combined rooms can seat up to 36.
