Sitting right on the edge of Scotland near John O’Groats, the stately Ackergill Tower is a luxury retreat well versed in hosting romantic weddings. Following a refurbishment of the 15th-century
castle in 2012, the hotel’s 32 individually styled bedrooms have been brought right up to date, while a 10-capacity self-catering beach house has been added to the collection of spaces available.
The latest weddings space on offer – which can accommodate both ceremonies and receptions – is the 150-capacity Sinclair Palace, which overlooks the same-named bay, enjoying views across to the
Orkneys. Plans are afoot to add a spa, which will create more options for wedding guests staying overnight. The venue offers some pleasing locations for those all-important photos, including access
to its own private beach, where guests can even enjoy a specially laid-on bonfire.
