Moored on the Thames by the Embankment, HQS Wellington is a memorable and unique wedding venue, with sweeping views of the South Bank and the London Eye. Able to cater for up to 220 guests, the former battleship has numerous spaces available for ceremonies, which can be followed by a wedding breakfast in former engine room, the Court Room, which is surrounded by the Master Mariners’ collection of silver and gold.
The menus onboard HQS Wellington have a strong focus on sustainable, local produce and the team of experienced chefs pride themselves on working with the seasons to create menus of classic British dishes with an innovative modern approach. For weddings they offer a range of options from canapés, through to three course fine-dining meals, buffets and even barbecues for the warmer summer months. Starters could include the likes of smoked Scottish salmon with pickled cucumber, whipped horseradish and soda bread; or salt-baked beetroot with Ash goat’s cheese, red endive salad, and a pistachio vinaigrette. From the mains dishes might comprise seared sea bass, Celtic sea prawn and courgette mousse, samphire, caviar and white wine sauce; or pressed Hereford braised beef shin with garlic mash, spinach, roast shallot and a red wine jus. Finally newly-weds can treat their guests to an indulgent dessert such as sticky toffee pudding with clotted cream ice cream and date puree; hazelnut and chocolate cheesecake with a refreshing redcurrant sorbet; or a delicate apple and elderflower parfait served with a blueberry meringue and a redcurrant compote.
Receptions can be held on the open-air Quarter Deck, which can be kitted-out with heaters for chillier evenings, and is a great spot for picture opportunities.
* In 2020 HQS Wellington are offering 20 complimentary bottles of Searcys Champagne when couples book their wedding on the ship before the end of February. *
