We visited Zorita's Kitchen on a sunny May lunchtime, looking forward to a Spanish treat. We found the restaurant light, stylish and emitting an impression of extreme hygiene. But lacking any Spanish character.
Overall, the menu was… bready. Should a whole page of the menu be devoted to open sandwiches? Is that Spanish? I was looking forward to tapas: albondigas and alcachofas and patatas bravas and berenjenas, maybe an obscure speciality de la casa based on tripe. But there was nothing on the counter, and in the menu almost no choice at all. And where are the big dishes, merluza, steak a la plancha?
We had the olives and brochetta for starters, then an open sandwich and the Asturian bean soup, all served on stylish plates. But how excited can one get about… bread? The Asturian bean soup might have been authentic (if a lot thicker than I remember in Asturias, more the consistency of baked beans), with some extremely tough bits of meat in there that I gave up on.
I didn't feel I'd had a Spanish experience at all, let alone one drawn from the Duero. Just full of… bread. I had been processed and spat out by a machine.
