I had a pleasant experience last week in this restaurant. I enjoyed the “pa amb tomaquet” (bread with tomato) a very simple side dish traditional in Catalonia, that we usually eat together with cold meats or cheese. It was served with a full-flavored tomato cut in half and we had to spread it on the bread together with the oil, salt and garlic. This is different from other “Spanish” restaurants in London where they serve the bread already with some tomato cut in small slices on the top but that is not the proper way to make an authentic “pa amb tomaquet”. In Tamontana Brindisa they did it properly.
We also ordered a tomato salad with sardines, simple but fresh and well flavored. Then we had “fideua” (short pasta with fish and alioli). It was probably not the best fideua I have ever tried but what I liked is that it tasted like in Spain and it was the first time I tried this kind of dish in London.
For desserts “crema catalana” with strawberries. I had never tried that combination and I was not convinced about it although the cream was good and again made me remind the real taste of Catalan cuisine. The second dessert was “torrija” and this was absolutely brilliant.
The prices are similar to other Spanish tapas restaurants which for me (a native Spanish) means overpriced, but hey this is London! Overall, not a bad experience at all.
